The downpour hadn’t stopped for weeks, turning the city into a sprawling lake, roads now running with water.
Kerry, an investigator noted for her eccentricity, received a cryptic note: “Follow the wet track before it dries.”
With the metropolis submerged, the message appeared to be a trick.
Kerry waded through the overflowing alleys, her intuition guiding her to a deserted storehouse.
Amidst the wetness and neglect lay not the predicted crime location, but a conservatory, with flourishing plants basking beneath artificial sunlight.
The “wet track” was an appeal from an unidentified environmentalist, showcasing life’s perseverance even on a drowned planet.
