FANTASTICALLY FANTASY
Flight of Fancy
A fanciful flight

Relaxing in my sunshine chair Eyes soft closed, though old, I’m there!
With children splashing, not one care, Lifeguard whistle shrill — Who? Where?
A boy ignored the swimming rules Banished for the year — The fool!
Lap-lapping water at pool’s side, Chlorine in the air, Alive!
The warmth of Sol, young shoulders bare, Time to live the dream, No fear!
The platform looms three metres tall, Cold rungs curl my toes Don’t fall!
Reach concrete platform; cool wind blows, Step onto the board, Strike pose!
Stand tall, eyes ahead, mindful coach, Arms at side, step out. Approach!
Swing arms high for momentum — jump! Bounce hard, legs straight, fly… Heart pumps!
Keep focus-point up, arms spread wide Bird-like, I soar, free And wild!
Descent point reached; waist slightly bent Head below my legs Flight spent
Arms straight, hands together, eyes down Streamlined; cleave water — Touchdown!
From soaring bird to silver fish, Flash through liquid glass — Surface!
Porpoise becomes a hopping frog, Head shake, side to side, Waterlogged!
Then, climb, rinse, Repeat… All my glory days long!
Body twitches in sweet recall, Muscle memory. Mind foiled!
Surely, could I take to flight, then avian delight Descend!
I’m stirring in my summer chair Fantasy dispelled. Not fair!
Supergirl met her kryptonite, Time destructed youth. Lost fight!
Those air and water days are done. Leave me fantasize Alone!
To rest, dream, Repeat… Till all my days are gone!
