Three Things To Remember When You Are Not Satisfied With Your Life

Have you ever felt stuck or dissatisfied with yourself and your present accomplishments?

There are so many reasons why many people hate their lives.

Maybe you are just not getting the promotion you deserve, your long-term relationship failed, your salary is too small, you are far from achieving your personal and professional goals or things are not working as planned.

Sometimes, discontentment could creep in when we are not getting back as much as we give.

On the Tiny Buddha, Julie Santiago notes that a lot of people stay stuck in the same spot because they don’t know how to handle how they feel.

Sometimes, the feelings of inadequacy and dissatisfaction could be so overwhelming that they constantly build to a point of no return when we harbour them for too long.

We know that we want something more and we can hear it calling us.

Still, we must keep moving even when we don’t know where the roads are leading us to. We continue pushing because we don’t know what will happen if we stop.

Through it all, here are some things you shouldn’t forget:

1. You are not alone

The wants of man are insatiable and no matter how hard we try, we will always want more out of life.

It’s easy to get edgy when we think that everyone else has it together, while we are stuck in the same spot. The truth is, everyone has their hidden struggles too.

In a New York Times article, Tara Parker Pope observes that as humans, we tend to focus more on bad experiences than the good ones.

Here’s a fact:

Many people just don’t reveal their inadequacies. A lot of us actually want to do more and be more.

That’s why we never stop aiming for more. We are constantly acquiring as many degrees as we can, we are making new friends, aiming for the next promotion, changing career paths and always seeking something new.

Life itself is dynamic and we can’t remain on the same spot forever. So whenever you feel stuck, know that there are others who feel the exact same way.

2. You are not supposed to be satisfied all the time

Satisfaction has been defined as

“a state of contentment where all of your desires have been met.”

Now, the question is this: Is it really possible to have all your earthly desires met all at once?

Whether we admit it or not, there is no such thing as a perfect life. We can’t always control what happens to us and at the same time, not everything will turn out how we’ve planned it.

Once we accept this singular fact, it may give us some form of inner peace.

Indeed, there are no laid down rules for how life should be.

Also, when we tie our happiness or satisfaction to future successes that may or may not happen, we are setting ourselves up for more disappointment.

Enjoy today and find beauty in it.

3. Change comes one day at a time

All that we desire cannot happen in a split second. Life is in stages and sometimes, we are left with no option but to wait for the next best thing to happen.

It’s easy to get caught in the negativity trap if we are not seeing what we want to see in our lives. However, if we constantly dwell on past mistakes and inadequacies we are bound to encounter feelings of discontentment.

Rather than allow dissatisfaction to demotivate us, we can always choose to be optimistic and expectant. We can also leave room for flexibility while at it. As plans change, there’s nothing more rewarding than giving room for new things to happen.

If we were to rewind time to several years back, we will realize that we are so different from our past lives.

Here are some small changes to adopt when you feel unsatisfied with life:

  1. Focus on the positives: Endeavour to make positive changes while you can. Celebrate how far you have come; do not let your accomplishments go unacknowledged. Also, surround yourself with positive and optimistic people too.
  2. Find happiness in the little things: Make a conscious decision to be happy. Don’t be afraid to explore new trends and activities.
  3. Take your mental health seriously: Mental health is just as important as physical health and should be treated in the best way possible.
  4. Take some time off: Sometimes, people get frustrated when they have no time for themselves so much that they get overwhelmed when they reach a breaking point. When you feel like this, it’s ok to slow down.
  5. Have faith in your journey: If we embrace life with an open mind, we may just encounter fulfillment along the way.
