Find Peace of Mind in a Hectic World: Tips for Stress-Free Living

Photo by Jeremy Thomas on Unsplash

Are you feeling overwhelmed and stressed out? If so, you’re not alone. It can be hard to find peace of mind in our fast-paced world. But it’s not impossible! Here are some tips for stress-free living. By following these simple tips, you can learn to relax and de-stress your life.

Simplify your life

One way to find peace of mind is to simplify your life. If you have too many commitments and responsibilities, it can be challenging to relax and enjoy your life. Try to streamline your schedule and manage your time more efficiently. You may also want to consider eliminating some commitments from your life altogether.

How many of your commitments and responsibilities are essential? What can you eliminate?

Commitments that you can eliminate are usually the “shoulds” — I should clear out my closet and organize my desk. Some examples of essential commitments are a job to provide for your family, paying your bills, and taking care of your health. These are all things that you need to do to live your life.

I often ask myself, “Will anything bad happen if I don’t do this?” For example, if you don’t file and pay your taxes, you could go to prison. If you don’t care for your children, you might endanger their lives, and you would be committing the crime of child neglect. But if you don’t clear out your closet, nothing “bad” will happen.

The other way your commitments and responsibilities can cause you stress is by “stacking.” You make a massive list or stack everything you have to do — one on top of the other — in your mind. The higher the stack gets, the more overwhelming it becomes.

But if you think about it, you can only ever do one thing at a time anyway. My method is to keep a complete “To-Do List” but then choose one task to work on. On top of my To-Do List, I put a sheet of paper that says, “The only thing I have to do today is: _____________.”

It seems easy when you look at it, and there is no “stacking.” Once you complete that task, you can choose to put another sheet of paper on top that once again only has one job to complete. If you’re like me, it will help you stay calm and focused on the task at hand rather than freaking out over your long To-Do List.

Make time for yourself

Another tip for stress-free living is to make time for yourself. Each day, taking some time to do something that you enjoy will help you relax and de-stress. It’s important to schedule some “me time” into your day. This can be anything from reading a book, taking a bath, or walking.

This is vital no matter how much you have to do. You can’t say, “I don’t have time for enjoying myself.” But if you think about it, just taking as little as 20–30 minutes for some relaxation and enjoyment will rejuvenate you and make your working time much more productive. It will also make life more fun and make you happier.

Mindfulness meditation

Finally, one of the best ways to find peace of mind is to practice meditation or mindfulness. Meditation can help you focus your thoughts and quiet your mind. Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment and paying attention to your thoughts and feelings. By practicing meditation or mindfulness, you can learn to control your stress levels and find inner peace. You can read some of my other articles on meditation and mindfulness here:
