Fifty Trips Around the Sun
And you’re still the one

For fifty years, you’ve graced the world with your presence shining your light when it’s brightest sharing your talents at their finest
The gifts that you bring, gardens tended with care the creative way you cook with flair I miss the way you smell and taste your sweet voice hanging in the air
I imagine how you’ll celebrate your milestone will you be with friends or all alone You’ve come this far, through good times and bad My hope is today you’re no longer sad that you’ve stopped fighting currents and you’re living the dream for it’s your time to float downstream
Many years have come and gone since you went away I can’t shake you loose from my heart and wish you could’ve stayed As you approach your half century birthday I wonder if you’re willing to spend the second half with me someday
What if we let down our guard and gave us a second chance letting the past fade and the future reveal itself in our dance Why waste the rest of our lives with regret and tears when we can release our fears We’re free anytime, to embrace the love I know is still here, there, and everywhere
I remember the tender words we shared when you expressed affection and showed me you cared The time keeps floating by and I want to cry out to you and say, hey, good morning, dear you please stop saying goodbye
I can’t try to be rational anymore Something’s telling me, go be with this man and open the door You’ll see inside the wide open space this woman gazing at your beautiful face
It’s me looking, loving you with more intent than the thousands of lifetimes we’ve already spent I tried to move on without you and it hasn’t worked well though we’ve both been through our version of hell It’s true, those who’ve lived in darkness feel the light that much brighter
We’ll emerge from cocoons and be butterflies together If your heart will open again I’ll fly beside you, our wings on the wind
I’ll listen to what’s happened while we’ve been apart wishing upon roses on tiny planets we’ll be granted a new start As I prune the rose bush you gave as my gift I’ll tend to you gently yet firmly and swift
Symbolically speaking, as I often do the stars are all laughing when I think of you When we break open what needs to go away better things will come together, and I hope that you’ll stay
