Found and Lost

A poem on love and loss

Photo by Chris Arock on Unsplash

I stumbled upon a tragedy Your sad truth brings tears Those times you didn’t respond to me Multiple arrests over the years

Again you lost yourself in drugs I read the news with sunken heart I wanted to give you hugs But Spirit led me away for a new start

Thoughts and prayers don’t seem to do When you’re not ready to grow Your God didn’t fail you You stopped listening, though

Your blazing baby blues have clouded Your mind confused and torn Your kind, gentle soul is shrouded By the memories we do mourn

For now my hope is shattered But in time our hearts will heal Pain from addiction matters And it’s ok to feel

Although we left with sorrow from our past coupling gone wrong I’ll always love you tomorrow And I’ll listen for your song

I’m dedicating this poem to anyone who’s loved an addict. Please reach out to your friends and support groups so you won’t feel alone in your pain.

Remember that addicts hurt themselves and others when they’re in their disease. You didn’t cause it, you can’t control it, and you can’t cure it. The most important thing you can do is focus on taking care of yourself.
