Introducing more of the creative stars of Medium

Hello again! This is a continuation of my celebration of fiction authors who are writing and sharing their work here on Medium.

I shared my first list of stars of our fiction community here, and also created a list titled ‘Fiction authors you should know about’, to help celebrate and promote our fiction authors:

I’m only shouting out these brilliant authors ten at a time in my lists, because we all need time to get to know them a little better. The info below comes partly from their bios, and partly from my own reflections.

Please, read on, follow, and check out their work.

  1. Bradan Writes StoriesBradan Writes Stories — is best left to describe himself verbatim: “I’m a bacterial bard, and my inkwell is infectious. As disease diplomat, allow my quarantine quill to prescribe a cure, my tales of fantasy to ease your malady.” Well, as far as I’m concerned, Bradan is a really great guy, and one of the most prolific and talented fantasy writers on Medium. He’s also a D&D nerd, soda fanatic, and no stranger to a truck.
  2. Sam WSam W. — is a 6x top writer (or maybe more... who really knows with Medium?!) who might be better known for her op-eds about human rights and activism. But I first came across her writing via her fiction, and it’s terrific. Check out stories like ‘The Looking-Glass Window’, and consider subscribing to her political newsletter, the World-Weary Writer, too.
  3. Rueben SalsaReuben Salsa — is, believe it or not, the 1998 Bourbon Biscuit Bathing Heavyweight Champion. In his spare time, Salsa dresses as Moses the prophet and is attempting to rewrite the Torah, at least according to his bio, but who knows — perhaps he has finished by now. I always enjoy Rueben’s fiction aka his ‘WTF stories’, and he shares great articles on music and other topics, too.
  4. Molly MillerMolly Miller — is a multi-passionate public health practitioner and former educator, when she isn’t crafting marvellous short stories. Molly hasn’t shared a huge amount of fiction on Medium as yet, but stories such as ‘Same, Kid’ really blew my mind, so I hope we’ll be seeing lots more! She shares a lot of resources for writers in addition to her fiction.
  5. Jay WellsJay C Wells — is Grandmaster of the Medium Illuminati (a self-explanatory title, I’m sure). He’s also a creator of hidden worlds and wondrous stories. One of those stories is his novel in progress, Stormborn, Legend of the Storm Maiden. Jay also writes some great humorous pieces, is a Kraken Lore ‘news correspondent’, and writes some CYOA too.
  6. Jacinta PalmerJacinta Palmer. A fan of dogs and dragons, Jacinta is writing the kind of fiction she loves to read, including YA, magical, romance, and supernatural. I know Jacinta’s work mainly from The Kraken Lore publication, and she’s a great member of the community here on Medium. Check out her Thoraminta fantasy stories.
  7. J.C. Lovero J.C. Lovero — joined the community at the Choose Your Own Adventure publication, and has enthralled us with his dark, poetic and emotionally compelling chapters. A healthcare worker, writing in the cracks of his life, fantasy/sci-fi nerd JC is also an award-winning short story author, and a lover of gay romance and happily ever afters. His work has been published in various anthologies.
  8. Novus GreyNovus Grey — is a creator who specializes in dark, fantastical, and gothic atmospheres. Novus is another writer that has shared ‘choose your own’ stories on occasion, with writing that is really stellar. I recommend trying this piece to get a flavor. It really needs to be experienced! Novus is also a fan of reading gothic fiction, and a creator of music and pixel art.
  9. Ayu WelirangAyu Welirang — is a crime fiction author from Indonesia. She’s also a very accomplished short story writer, who has translated some of her own work from Indonesian to English. A rising star here who has already won several writing awards, it is a pleasure to see her sharing her work with us at publications such as the Fiction Writer’s Den.
  10. Philip CharterPhilip Charter ✍️. As Philip’s bio says, he writes books, is 1.95m tall, and can fly️… one of these statements may be false! Perhaps Philip can’t fly, but his fiction will take readers to the heights (and depths) through gritty prose and great dialogue. And as well as sharing fiction, he is a writing coach, and has provided a wealth of advice for writers, right down to how to sharpen your sentences. Ideal for drabble authors!

There are a many more on the list, so I will keep sharing these selections, ten at a time (the last set dropped in April, so I may, if I can get my act together, make this a monthly thing…).

Hopefully these recommendations prompted you to make some new connections, find out more about the Medium fiction community, and most of all, enjoy great new stories!

Thanks for reading! Remember, this is only part 2!! Check out the first selection below, and follow the list to keep track:

And if you haven’t already stumbled upon The Fiction Writer’s Den, please follow and/or join us as a writer. It’s the ideal place to share fiction stories of all genres and lengths, from drabbles to web-novels:
