Using a Butt Plug During Sex Can Increase Your Pleasure a Lot!
A guide on how to use a butt plug (and why it’s so pleasurable)

There are many ways to add novelty and pleasure to your sex life. Sex toys are for me the best way to do it. Amongst my favourites, it’s the butt plug.
As the name indicates, it’s a sex toy you insert in your butt. And we all have one of those, so this sex toy is not specific for penis or vulva owners. Anyone can enjoy the pleasures of using a butt plug.
The anus is an extremely sensitive area; it has thousands of nerve endings around the opening and the anal walls. Stimulation in this area is extremely pleasurable, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
The anus is an erogenous area — one you should explore for additional sexual pleasure.
You can use butt plugs without engaging in anal sex. That’s why it’s called anal play and not sex play.
What is a butt plug?
This sex toy, specific for internal anal play, not only stimulates the nerve endings of the area but also applies pressure in the vaginal wall or against the prostate, increasing sexual arousal.
Most butt plugs have a tapered tip, for easy insertion, and they’re designed to fit the contours of the anus-rectum passage.
The offer of this sex toy is diverse. You can find it in several sizes, shapes, and materials.
But before we go through these characteristics, it’s important to talk about safety:
How to safely buy and use butt plugs
The golden rule for butt plugs: they must have a flared base
Unlike the vagina that has the cervix working as a “dead end”, the anal canal leads to the digestive tract. Also, the anal muscles are strong enough to suck a toy in.
Because of this, there are safety rules anal sex toys must follow, being the golden one is: butt plugs must have a flared base.
The base will prevent the butt plug to be sucked inside the anus. If it happens, only a trip to the hospital will solve the problem.
The base can also be a loop or a handle. As long as it has one of these three options, your butt plug has a safe end.
Use lots of lubricant
The anus is not self-lubricating like the vagina is, so to prevent lesions or pain, you must use lube.
Always use lube compatible with the material of your sex toy, to prevent damaging it.
If you have a silicone butt plug, use water-based lube. If you have a glass or stainless steel sex toy, then you can use any type.
However — and especially if you’re not used to anal play — it’s recommended you use anal lubricants, as they are a bit more thick and last long (you don’t need to apply it so often).
If you don’t have them, you can opt for a water-based lube, as it has the same characteristics (thick and long-lasting).
When applying it, do it both on the sex toy and on your anus.
Hygiene
When engaging in anal play or anal sex, always make sure you don’t pass the toys or the penis to the vagina or mouth; it increases the risk of passing bacteria and STI
After using the butt plug, clean it properly, preferably with a specific sex toys cleaner.
Size, shapes and variants of butt plugs
You will find different sizes, shapes, and styles of butt plugs. You can buy them as a unit or as kits; for beginners or for advanced users.
Size
There are butt plugs in many sizes.
If you’re a beginner, my suggestion is for you to start with the smallest size — the equivalent to your pinky finger.
When I tried a butt plug for the first time, I started with the smallest size. But it took me only one experience to realise I wasn’t “filled” enough.
Maybe it’s because I was used to anal play. Now, I use a medium size and I’m very happy with the sensations.
Shapes
The most common shape of butt plugs is a cone, with a thinner tip, a bulkier centre and a large flared base.
But you can find other shapes, like curved (ideal to reach the prostate), a thinner cone shape or, conversely, a bulkier one.
Material
Like other sex toys, you can find butt plugs in different materials.
These are the most common: stainless steel, glass and silicone.
Whatever material you choose, always go with safety first. Make sure you buy your sex toys in a reputable sex shop.
If you’re looking for a smooth, silky sensation, opt for a silicone butt plug (remember, you can only use water-based lube with these).
Butt plugs made of glass or stainless steel, besides being easier to sanitise, are heavier and more rigid than silicone ones. They will give you a sensation of “fulness”.
I tried both silicone and stainless steel, and my choice goes for the latter. But, of course, it’s very subjective.
My recommendation, if you’re new to anal play, is to start with silicone — because it’s lighter — and if you’re happy with it, upgrade to glass or stainless steel.
Other options

Vibrating butt plugs: these can also be used with remote control, which makes it amazing for couples’ play. You give your partner the remote and wait for the pleasurable vibration — which you never know when it comes. I can’t wait to try this!
Vibrating butt plugs have several settings, with different speeds and vibration patterns.
Jewelled butt plugs: these butt plugs have a jewel (usually an imitation) as a flared based. There are different colours and effects. They give your ass a lovely, shiny look.
Tail butt plugs: often used during pet play, or fetish parties, this butt plug also looks great if you’re engaging in sexual fantasy. As the name says, the butt plug ends in a long animal tail.
Curved: ideal for P-spot stimulation, this butt plug will hit the prostate gland more easily than the straight ones.
Expanded butt plugs: usually used by kinksters or people very used to anal play. Instead of having a solid cone shape, this butt plug will expand inside the anus, looking like a bloomed flower.
Hollow butt plugs: similar to common ones, these butt plugs are hollow all the way through. This makes it possible to use other sex toys at the same time, like anal beads or a vibrator.
How to use a butt plug during sex
Using it for the first time
Before inserting the sex toy, engage in delicious, arousing foreplay, even if you’re masturbating. Don’t go and insert the butt plug without being already fully relaxed.
If you are with a partner, ask them for external anal stimulation, like pleasurable rimming or passing a lubed finger over your perineum and anus.
When you’re relaxed enough, let your partner know you’re ready for the butt plug.
After lubing the sex toy and your anus, slowly press the butt plug inside. If your muscles clench, resisting the toy, stop. Take a deep breath, add more lube, and try again when you’re ready.
Any position will be a good one for you to insert the butt plug, as long as you’re relaxed. Being on your fours or on your knees might be the best for beginners.
Because the sex toy will remain only in the anal canal, there shouldn't be issues regarding faeces, but if you wish to have your mind at ease, do a douche beforehand.
It’s good practice (and advisable) to have a proper wash on the area if you’re going to play anal, even if only external.
A bit of discomfort the first time you use a butt plug is normal, but pain is not. So, if that’s the case, take the butt plug out, gently.
What makes butt plugs so pleasurable?
Unlike the anal beads, which are a dynamic sex toy (you insert it and take it out continuously), the butt plug is static.
You insert it and let it stay in your anus during sex or foreplay.
This sex toy gives you a fulness sensation, and a continuous, very pleasurable low friction.
Because the anus it’s rich in nerve endings, it’s an erogenous area. The butt plug will stimulate it, giving you intense pleasure.
Why I recommend you try a butt plug
As a woman, using a butt plug while being fucked is a spectacular sensation. It’s a soft double penetration and that, my friend, it’s very fulfilling.
I also love to use the butt plug while my partner is going down on me, it’s how I usually have triple blended orgasms (anus, clit and G-spot).
My partner also loves to use them; he says it amplifies his orgasms, that they are a full-body experience.
They trigger more intense orgasms
When you orgasm wearing a butt plug, the sensations are intensified.
Prostate owners will get a different, exciting stimulation
The prostate, also known as the P-spot, is a male gland located below the bladder and above the muscles of the pelvic floor. It’s about two inches inside the rectum, towards the belly.
Using a butt plug, men will feel the pressure in the P-spot, which is extremely pleasurable.
Even if you’re not moving, for example, when you’re receiving head, the pleasure will also be immense, as the contractions of your pelvic muscles make the butt plug shift and stimulate the nerve endings in the area.
Vulva owners will also get a different, exciting stimulation
For women, the butt plug puts pressure on the back vaginal wall, which will increase sexual pleasure.
When we orgasm (like it happens with men), the sensations are intense in the anus, as well.
You can use a butt plug during any sexual act
The butt plug is a great sex toy; you can use it during foreplay, sex — any position — and masturbation.
The pleasure is located and you don’t have to do anything (unlike a dildo or the anal beads). Just insert it and go on with your life!
A butt plug is an excellent addition to your sex toys’ collection.
They are also a good way to do anal training. If you want to try anal sex, start with butt plugs and work your way up to penetration.
If you’re a beginner, start with a smaller size. Along the way, if you feel the desire, upgrade to a bigger one or be adventurous, by getting a vibrating one with remote control.
Enjoy the pleasure!
