Summary

Fashion Police is a Medium publication that accepts submissions on fashion design, sustainability, personal essays, and intelligent discourse on fashion, with a focus on creativity, artistry, and meaningful narratives rather than typical beauty tips.

Abstract

The "Fashion Police" publication on Medium invites writers to contribute articles that delve into the creative and artistic aspects of fashion. The editor, Andrew Lalchan, emphasizes a preference for content that explores fashion design, sustainable practices, personal stories, and thoughtful essays over conventional hair and makeup advice. Contributors are encouraged to submit pieces that reflect on personal fashion experiences, historical perspectives, cultural impacts, and the environmental effects of the industry. The publication welcomes diverse topics, including sustainable materials, fashion history, designer spotlights, and body positivity, aiming to foster a space for creativity and exploration of identity through fashion. Submissions should adhere to Medium's formatting and image crediting guidelines, with a suggested reading time of 1-7 minutes. Light editing is provided, but articles requiring significant edits may be returned or rejected. The publication also accepts previously published pieces and encourages the use of visuals to complement the written content.

Before submitting, please note I am interested in fashion design and the creative and artistic side of fashion, not in hair and makeup tips.

Welcome to Fashion Police, Medium’s brand-new publication for fashion! Everyone is welcome, whether you want to write about your personal experiences with fashion and any clothes you have designed, or fashion issues on the world stage.

You can submit pretty much anything having to do with fashion here, as long as it’s intelligent and well-written. Save the duck lips and photoshopped hips for Instagram and TikTok, please. Fashion Police aren’t about impressing people. It’s about creativity, artistry, and exploring who you are.

Erie Austin started this publication and has been taken over by Andrew Lalchan. I am a fashion photographer and writer about many subjects, and one of these is Fashion. I write about new fashion designers and photograph their latest designs. If you’re a fashion designer, let’s see your work! If you’re not, no worries. Here are some possible topics you might explore:

  • The use of sustainable materials in clothing and accessories
  • What you wore today/what’s in your closet, and what it means to you
  • Your all-time favourite outfits, and why they’re your favourites
  • What you wore on a special day
  • What did your mother/grandmother/great-grandmother wear to her wedding?
  • Other personal essays/memoirs with fashion as part of the story
  • The environmental impact of fast fashion
  • Ethical production practices
  • Fashion history
  • Historical jewelry
  • Designer spotlights
  • Vintage or secondhand clothing
  • Body positivity
  • Cultural appropriation
  • History of fashion movements and design houses
  • Celebrity fashion choices
  • Discussion of designer and celebrity collaborations

Again, hair, makeup, and other run-of-the-mill beauty tips will not be accepted. The only way I will publish articles about these topics is if the hair or makeup styles are truly unique, interesting works of art worth talking about.

  • Please follow Medium guidelines for formatting posts and crediting images.
  • I’m not too particular about post length. Anything from 1–7 minutes reading time is fine. Please try not to go longer.
  • Editing will be light, unless your article comes in when I happen to have a lot of time. If the article requires heavy edits, I’ll send it back to you for you to work on yourself. If on second submission the article still requires heavy edits, it will be rejected.
  • Since this is an artistic publication, you’re welcome to use more than one image in your post (remember to probably credit them). Just don’t go too crazy!
  • Currently, previously published pieces are accepted.
