Fantastic Stories From 3 Thoughtful Writers
Discover new writers
I don’t know if it’s the chill in the air, the upcoming end of the year, or the ghost of Christmas past that has me moving slower than usual and off my productivity pace. I keep getting distracted by the desire to watch another Christmas movie, find a new holiday music stream, or discover a new toy to distract me. Nevertheless, I know I’m in the home stretch of this year and starting to plan for 2022.
So here is something really cool I just discovered on Medium. If you click on the clap icon for your own stories, you can see who clapped for you. Wow, a new discovery every day!
This week I am sharing stories from two new writers and another who has been here for a while. Jason Matthews, Kevin Daniels, and Susan Scandiffio all write from the heart, and their stories will spark your reflection muscle. Hope you enjoy these.
Jason Matthews has been writing here on Medium since August. And though he has just written a handful of stories, there are several gems among them. In this one, he questions why writers contribute to Medium.
Here he provides tips on how to chase apathy away.
This story celebrates the plethora of opportunities we have in this time. It also questions the price we pay to chase these dreams.
Kevin J. Daniels describes himself as a change agent. Since his arrival in October, he has contributed some powerful stories that can truly serve as a catalyst to living a more fulfilled life. Here he talks about preparing ourselves for success.
The idea that really hit home with me from the story was evaluating your role. Many of us would rather be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big one. But by getting into the deeper water, we can learn more and explore a cornucopia of opportunities that we would not have encountered by playing small.
For Thanksgiving, he wrote about using gratitude to reshape our narratives.
The takeaway for me was considering Thanksgiving from the Native American’s point of view. They helped those European settlers survive their first years in a far-off and inhospitable domain. Welcoming the strangers to live side by side despite the peril that awaited them in the years to come. Somehow, I believe if they had the opportunity to do it all over again, those natives would have done the same thing. Share the abundance.
In this stressful time of year, we all want calm control and peace of mind. This story will give you some insight into how to achieve that.
Susan Scandiffio has been here for a few years. Her stories are funny and insightful. She vulnerably shares vignettes of challenging life experiences and how she thrived through adversity. Her profile picture has her beside NBA legend Steph Curry, so you know she is cool. And a quick shout out to Mr. Curry for his Ruthianian accomplishment of setting the three-point shot record. Here are three of Susan’s amazing stories.
In this one, she captures the absurdity of her neighborhood’s Facebook group.
Here she shares how to shed a quick couple hundred pounds.
And finally, in this story, she contemplates a cemetery full of stories. Wow!
Hope you like these stories. Please take the time to engage with these writers. Though they may write for themselves, it is sure nice to know someone else is reading too.
Happy holidays,
John
