“Families are like branches on a tree, we grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.” — Unknown

During this winter break, we spent nearly two weeks visiting extended family in the Washington metropolitan area. Due to the ongoing global pandemic, we could not see them last year.

We spent a wonderful week with them this past summer, but we haven’t met them during the Christmas holidays for several years.

We are grateful to our extended family for their warm hospitality and efforts to ensure that we had a fantastic time from the beginning to the end of our trip. During our visits, they always give us royal treatment.

Amazing Hosts

My mother eagerly anticipates our visits and always goes out of her way to prepare our favorite dishes.

Mom also stocks up her fridge with our favorite food and drink. She truly creates an environment that welcomes us, makes us feel comfortable, and allows us to enjoy the experience of being in her home.

My sister and my brother-in-law are fantastic hosts and go to great lengths to ensure everyone has a good time.

My sister meticulously plans our vacation itinerary down to the last detail — from movie nights to game nights to shopping expeditions.

This holiday, she even planned an evening where family members could build and decorate their own gingerbread houses from store-bought kits.

Needless to say, my sister purchases the most thoughtful and generous gifts for everyone. No expense is spared.

Foodies

My sister and brother-in-law are foodies who cook the most delicious meals. To be honest, they are so inventive in the kitchen and have such a natural talent for cooking, that they could open their own restaurant if they wanted to.

This time around, they whipped up paella, fried green tomato sandwiches, grilled Mediterranean chicken, and a variety of other dishes during our visit.

Final Thoughts

We ended up extending our visit a bit because our return flight was canceled twice due to COVID-related staffing shortages and bad weather. We were finally able to book a flight home after some rescheduling.

Overall, it was a fabulous time. We are looking forward to our next vacation with them.
