Admit it you hate working these days!

You could be an introvert in the wrong industry or in need of a break. Continue reading for five signs you may be experiencing workplace burnout!

A 40 HR WORK WEEK FEELS LIKE FOREVER

Most full-time employees work an average of 2,087 hrs per year. According to a study conducted by Gettysburg College, “One-third of your life is spent at work!” Essentially your job is your second home and your co-workers are your second family.

Many factors play a role in the behaviors and traits of people. Personalities can not be explained as black and white. There is very much gray area that blends us and makes us all have more in common than we know. Even still, people tend to identify themselves as being an introvert or an extrovert. While extroverts are normally the life of the office. Introverts have a very different perspective to heighten energies in the workplace.

Introverts struggle with adapting to office settings and work requirements. Interactions like long meetings and talking to coworkers in the break room can feel forced.

A Healthline article describes introverts this way, “An introvert is often thought of as a quiet, reserved, and thoughtful individual. They don’t seek out special attention or social engagements, as these events can leave introverts feeling exhausted and drained. Introverts are the opposite of extroverts.

Spending one-third of the time in an environment that you dread could feel like torture.

Introverts who find themselves mentally zoning out in the workplace could be on autopilot and in danger of burnout.

In 1980, German-born American psychologist, Herbert Freudenberger coined the term “burnout!”

Writing a best-selling self-help book, “The High Cost of High Achievement”. Freudenberger identified many symptoms experienced on the road to workplace burnout.

As a therapist Freudenberger spent decades treating patients who shared similar experiences. He later defined burnout as, ‘’the extinction of motivation or incentive, especially whereone’s devotion to a cause or relationship fails to produce the desired results.’’

If you find yourself prolonging the day workload to avoid the clock rush to the elevator. Or, that you are working twice as hard to accomplish half as much work.

THE JOB HAS YOU OVERSTIMULATED!

SERIOUSLY, IF THIS IS HAPPENING… YOUR JOB IS TAKING A TOLL ON YOU!

It’s funny when joke with coworkers about ways you fake being sick or barricade yourself in the restroom at work, but thinking of ways to avoid work daily may be the first sign you’re not happy in your current workspace.

Don’t worry Introvert!

If work has you irritated these days, here are five signs you may be struggling with workplace burnout:

  • Tossing and Turning! A physical sign of exhaustion. Restless nights only lead to more restless nights. If you’re wiped out, restless, or lose sleep due to pressures of work. You could be experiencing workplace burnout.
  • YOU STAY ON EDGE! Irritability is an early sign of resistance in many areas of life. If anything and everything your employer asks of you sounds like nails to a chalkboard. It’s time for a break to re-evaluate your day-to-day work life.
  • You’re just not into it! Even introverts have things that interest them on and off the job. If your favorite workplace hideout is just not cutting it anymore and everything about your job is a bore. Starting to lose interest in things we once found enjoyment in is a sign. You’re likely on autopilot headed towards burnout.
  • Body feeling Blah! Extended periods of stress can lead to many chronic health conditions. In both introverts and extroverts, physical workplace burnout can present itself as an upset stomach, migraines/headaches, exhaustion, and other stress-related conditions. Punching in giving you paralysis? Time to plan to find a better fitting position.
  • Too Indecisive! Burnout leads to a mental fog that makes it difficult to make decisions alone or with others. Zoning out during a conversation, having difficulty deciding all are signs you’re burning out!

ITS TIME TO PICK A NEW POSITION

Wake Up Introvert!

It is okay to accept that your work duties are leaving you depleted and you feel like you suffer from one or all of five of the burnout symptoms!

It's time to consider and a new job!

This in no way is a permission slip for you to just up and quit your job! Yet, it can be a sign that you need to take responsibility for your life, happiness, and ability to thrive and find a position that best suits your introverted mood.

Create a plan, talk to a trustworthy source, and starting applying for new positions. It could be time for you to finally start that side gig. The only way to stop burnout is to get out of the cycle. Changing your work environment just might change your life! Live the life you desire, you’re the pilot!
