Everything You Do to Help Yourself Strengthens You

Focus on small ways to empower yourself and you’ll grow stronger and wiser

Source

Your life is an accumulation of every little act you make and thought you entertain. Unpleasant thoughts disempower you: They make you weaker. Harmful habits damage you: They send you on a downhill spiral. And the opposite is true too. When you create positive thoughts and carry out constructive behaviors, you thrive. You grow stronger.

Inner strength and courage don’t arise by themselves, they come from daily self-care and daily growth. No one will hand you wisdom and confidence.

You won’t get those qualities from a book, a class, or from your favorite movie. You can understand sage quotes and helpful tips with your intellect. But until you act on them, they won’t sink into your psyche and impact your personal development.

Sometimes, we forget we have the power to build strength by ourselves. We imagine life experience will give us what we need naturally, so we don’t have to create stability or craft better understanding of ourselves. We can grow faster, nonetheless, and become more robust if we help ourselves.

Even taking ten minutes a day to meditate, or strolling to watch the sunset once a week influences your personal growth. It teaches you calmness and ramps up focusing skills. Or provides a sense of wonder and reminds you about beauty.

Each time you work on your communication you encourage the healthy development of relationships too. You might aim to listen more, for instance, or stand up for yourself by saying “no” when you want to more often.

Likewise, tidying your desk, so it’s easy to find what you need, or learning about a relevant health condition can give you more strength.

Every new snippet of wisdom, when applied to your life, has the potential to help you on your way to a brighter future. As does each practical measure taken to make your life more comfortable or fulfilling.

So often, we think about goal-setting because we want to reach a far off target. But we forget it’s the simple, everyday acts that change our lives the most.

Just as unhealthy habits weaken you, healthy ones grow your mental muscles. They make the days to follow better.

It’s worth stopping what you’re doing now to ask “what action can I take this moment to help myself?” Perhaps you could add a single tiny behavior that makes life easier. Or you can stop doing something that weakens you.

Not spending so long using your phone, for example, might empower you. Or being more discerning about what you consume via television and what you eat will tip the balance of progress and wellbeing in your favor.

And getting a task you dislike out of the way or watching a comedy movie could change your outlook from despondent to optimistic.

Why not set a challenge to help yourself daily? What changes can you make to add more health, happiness, or fulfillment to your existence?

When you hold the intention to help yourself in mind, you train your brain. You teach it to prompt you to recognize ways to increase happiness and wellness. It will point out opportunities and assist your journey to contentment.

All you have to do is make helping yourself a habit by practicing often, and your new behavior will turn into a lifelong custom. And who knows where it will take you? Can you imagine the impact of building mental and physical strength each day?

Huge goals often aren’t doable, and they can make you believe you can’t be happy until you achieve them. Focus on small ways to help yourself, though, and you’ll be stronger, wiser, and more satisfied with life before you know it.
