Everything There Is and Everything Past All That Never Came To Be and Everything That Will Last
A free verse poem inspired by a picture of a rainbow on September 11th
Writer’s photo taken by and sent to him by his son this afternoon looking east out the window of his and my ex’s and daughter's apartment on the East River in New York City — “Do you like rainbows,” he asks, “Of course I do,” I say, “Who doesn't?”
Experiencing elegiac synchronistic ekphrasia
Knowing a poem will emerge from this visual ambrosia
Two sprites high-fiving each other in the water right of Queensboro
Know that my three eyes will translate this quite thorough
What is it about rainbows?
Capturing imaginations of creation, as we forget and corrupt the meaning of created in the image of God, with all of Those powers
Domes of protection emerging from turbulent storms
When hearts feel the weight of worry
Eyes look up and find comfort, smile, and kiss the sky
Have you ever tried to touch the sky?
It’s not difficult if you know where to look
Quite easy actually it is, as Yoda would grammaticize
We touch it
We breathe it
Every day, as the atmospheric zone we inhabit is part of the sky
Yet, how does my favorite dictionary define this word you think you know
The vault of heaven; Heaven, the dwelling place of God
Lips purse and drink thirstily raindrops filled with the nectar of life
Cycles
Birth, death, rebirth
Evaporation, condensation, precipitation
Sun breaks through
and our limited eyesight expands
White light separates and all our sacred energies emerge to our senses
Behold Gaia’s beauty
Peace
Conveying this feeling
This meaning
Realizing that billions and billions before have come and gone
and yet remain
Energy does not dissipate but merely transforms
Thunderclap makes my heart skip a beat
Wow!
Such power released and captured when lightening passes through air heating it 5x times hotter than the surface of our star the Sun
Pause…
and imagine that…
Like Brahma creates, Vishnu preserves, and Shiva destroys
Simultaneous trinities
Rain creates life, lightening lights destructive fires that fertilize soil
Energy preserved and transformed
What is it about rainbows that stop us dead in our tracks
Perceiving from below a beautiful frown
yet a smile if perceived from above
Alchemy
Look at the picture
What do you see?
ROYGBIV
Full human spirit energetic chakra spectrum
Red — root
Orange — sacral
Yellow — solar plexus
Green — heart
Blue — throat
Indigo — third eye
Violet wears the crown
Perhaps that’s why every human being loves rainbows
Each arc represents all of us
Oneness
Namaste
A few hours after Alex sent me the picture, this story hit my Google News app:
Then the synchronistic enormity of the moment hit me.
Bless all the souls smiling down upon us who agreed in their soul contracts to end their present incarnations on 9/11/2001.
A few songs I could not help but think about as I created this poem:
I’d like to take this moment to thank all for the new contributions of personal essays and poems to Anthi Psomiadou’s, Claire Kelly’s, and my pub since we decided to reinvigorate it:
Reminding all our other writers that our pub is dedicated to celebrating synchronicity in all its forms and the magical alchemy that can result when we open our hearts and minds to embracing change and uncertainty and that we look forward to your contributions.
