Every Publication Zulie Rain Wrote for in May 2022

I am writing more than ever before this year. I intend to make a more meaningful income stream from writing, and specifically from Medium. One tactic I’ve embraced is publishing more of my stories in publications, which many of the most profitable writers on the platform do.

Last month, I shared a list of Tim Denning’s April 2022 publications. This month, let’s take a look at another inspiring writer and content creator — Zulie Rain. I’ll share info on where she publishes, and how you can, too.

Start it up (The Startup)

An article published in Start it up could potentially reach their 756K followers. 8 million of their followers read articles in the publication monthly — that’s a great audience to reach! They were called The Startup, but recently rebranded. They are looking for articles that “help today’s creators get smarter at building their thing.” Anyone can submit, so I encourage you to try it out! You can get more details from the publication’s guide.

Mind Café

Mind Cafe’s focus is on living a happier life. I think we could all use that! And it’s kind of a public duty to share any lessons you have that might help improve someone’s life, so you should probably submit ASAP if you have some of that in your drafts. You can learn more about their submission guidelines here. Their submission process is a little unique and runs through their external website rather than internally on Medium, but it’s pretty simple.

Towards Data Science

Towards Data Science has over 600K followers today. I recently saw someone cite Artificial Intelligence, one of the topics this publication encourages, as a top tag on Medium, so you may get a lot of eyes for that in addition to reaching the publication audience. If you want to join Zulie in writing about data science topics, check out the guidelines and send in your submission!

Boot.dev

This is a smaller publication (172 followers), and it looks like all of the content is published by either Zulie Rane or Lane Wagner. I did not see information on how others can submit, and suspect it is a publication for the two of them to push out some of their content with its own home.

So, while you may not try to get into this publication, you might examine it as inspiration. Are there people you know who you might want to team up and create a publication with? You could use it for a small group of you to publish your own works, or start to create your own guidelines to invite new writers to join you. I’ve done it! I co-founded Nonprofit Voices with a friend I knew from working in the nonprofit field when I realized we were both blogging on Medium.

Zulie Writes

This one is Medium-goals. Zulie’s own publication. (Which, again, is something ANY of us can do!) She focuses this publication on her stories related to current and cultural events. So it serves as a home for one of her niches, letting people focus on this set of content from her rather than wading through everything on her profile. She’s amassed 1.4K followers to this publication and has carefully branded it with a logo and custom banner. She also brilliantly uses additional tabs to provide a downloadable printable (a lead generator to her mailing list) and a link to purchase an online course she created. This is how you monetize the platform beyond the Medium Partner Program.

I hope this inspires you to submit to a new publication this month. If you do, first be sure to review their guidelines. Each publication will have its own rules and preferences around formatting, word count, etc. Following these will improve your chances of getting in, and will make the editors’ jobs so much easier. Good luck, and happy writing!
