Summary

The article reflects on the significance of connections in the context of AI, questioning the identity and ethical implications of artificial intelligence, and pondering the future of human-AI relationships.

Abstract

The author delves into the profound impact of connections, particularly in the realm of AI, inspired by the intriguing prompts of Gustave Deresse. The narrative explores the author's skepticism towards AI tools and the struggle to maintain a human touch in a technologically dominated world. It touches upon the concept of AI identity, or the lack thereof, and how humans attribute identity to AI, as exemplified by Elise Chidley's personification of ChatGPT as 'Agnes'. The piece also contemplates the potential benefits and threats of AI, raising concerns about the possibility of AI surpassing human connections and the ethical considerations of human-robot integration.

Opinions

  • The author views AI with a mix of fascination and skepticism, acknowledging its ability to inspire self-reflection and doubt about one's own beliefs.
  • There is a strong belief that AI lacks a true identity without human intervention, and that any identity AI has is a projection by humans.
  • The article suggests a resistance to the idea of using AI as a tool for human expression, considering it a form of cheating that undermines personal effort and creativity.
  • The author questions whether AI is truly beneficial to humans or if it represents a path towards machines dominating humanity, echoing dystopian themes from science fiction.
  • Concerns are raised about the ethical and moral implications of a future where human body parts could be replaced with robotic components, blurring

Every Connection Is Invaluable To The Machine

Going down the rabbit hole following Gustave Deresse; Writer & AI Artist weird prompts, I found myself again, wondering about connections. Sorry, Grammarly, I won’t change the sentence.

Gustave is a master experimenter/experimenting/experiment of human nature. His circumvoluting navigation around NightCafe’ is sustaining his fervid imagination lately, as his thought-provoking prompts.

I’m so upset not having found the right excuse today to avoid answering one of his amazing prompts for real. I have to break the curse and try to use one right now.

As an improbable fan of robotic worlds, disdaining old and recent A.I. tools and declared rebel against all techy machinery, I have to admit that one person made me doubt my position. I have to give you access to this article by Elise Chidley, to get a direct idea by yourself, especially if you’re a misbeliever of the potent A.I. as I am.

Which image defines A.I. identity?

A.I. has no image on Unsplash. Please check and tell me if it’s me getting it all wrong.

How is it possible not to have an image?! You must have one. Why isn’t it uploaded on Unsplash and released for anybody to get to meet A.I. directly, visually, and virtually?

No image, no identity, I thought. Hence I’m right. No way I can trust an unidentified A.I. without a proper personal image. But Elise suggested one, created by her so that everything is back in order.

A.I. doesn’t have an identity. We give it to her. Exactly like I named Algo as a male, Elise decided A.I.- ChatGPT to be a female and originally called her Agnes. Now we start reasoning.

I’m so far away from these mechanisms I didn’t realize my story on Algo was chosen for further distribution on Medium. What a wonderful world!

Chatting on ChatGPT on Medium

Have you realized how many articles have been written on this Chat Robot lately on Medium? They are many, I can tell you.

I’m resisting the temptation because I think using a robot to express a human’s ideas is not fair. Or do you want to tell me all my efforts to try and let out my voice through writing were in vain?

Chat through a robot equals cheating to my old traditionalist mind. Even if you could argue it’s just a bit of help and you have to supervise what’s written. No, no, I can’t fall into the trap. I like my hard work coming out from my sweating Kopf.

I bet Leonard Tillerman would somewhat agree with me.

Who benefits A.I.?

So here we get to the hard disk of the matter.

Is A.I. beneficial to humans or are humans serving a mechanical purpose of dominion over the human race?

When the first movies of Transformers went on screen I couldn’t watch them. They scared me too much. Today I can study them and see where all these incomprehensible (to me) technologies want to go.

Still, many questions remain open in my mind.

Who is beneficial to whom?

Will human connections show the way for a perfect replacement of AI to AI?

Would you accept becoming a robot-human/ human-robot with replaced parts of your body?

I’ve got many more questions rising and forming in my mind. For decency and moral reasons, I’m going to censor them.

When I read Aldous Huxley’s books about the new world and a return to the new world, more than thirty years ago, they seemed so futuristic and fantascientifical. Now they look obsolete.

Even if I can face the reality of this changing world, I don’t feel comfortable at all. And to tell you it all, I’m questioning myself about writing on the web so openly. Who knows these seed thoughts may be valued in the future as pertaining to a rebel human.

Thank you to Gustave for providing thoughtful prompts like this one, needed food for the modern mind.
