Summarize

Even if No One Read it I Would Write A Story A Day

It is my commitment to myself

I talked to my friend Mack today. He’s one of the few friends of mine who really gets it.

He gets why a person writes.

He gets why a person needs to write.

He gets why its important to write every day.

He gets why its vital to commit to it.

I am grateful for his friendship!

Mack also happens to read the same authors that I read — like Steven Pressfield, Brene Brown, Neil Gaiman, Liz Gilbert and the wonderful Seth Godin.

To me, they all say basically the same thing, in a slightly different way:

SHOW UP and do the work!

I know that many don’t feel it is important to write daily. That’s fine. We all have our way of doing things.

Speaking of @SethGodin. He is the one who inspired me to do daily writing. He rocks!

Seth is awesome! Here’s his blog. sethgodin.typepad.com

He said:

‘Even if no one reads it I would blog every day. I think everyone should. If you think that tomorrow you had to say something…you will form those opinions, you will invent that idea. If day after day you leave this trail behind of this thoughtful examination of your work, you can’t help but get better — if as a BONUS other people read it and resonate, that’s cool.’

He also said to write daily and don’t worry about silly social media, (yet anyway).

This is for me.

For now, I prefer to just show up and write (spend my time on the creative writing process) rather than spend my time fretting over social media etc.

It is also called: ‘Content Generating’. I believe in generating content daily. That is the key for me.

@JeffGoins is also a wonderful proponent of writing daily. This is from his article ‘Why you need to write every day’:

The idea is repetition — developing a discipline of showing up, making this a priority, and working through The Resistance.

If you want to get this writing thing down, you need to start writing every day. No questions asked, no exceptions made. After all, this isn’t a hobby we’re talking about; it’s a discipline.’

The only sure way to fail is to NOT show up.

I feel it is so important to maintain momentum.

Just as when you run every day, the exercise gets easier and easier, the same thing happens with your brain.

Stimulate it regularly each day, and those juices start to flow more freely.

So, since I have committed to my new writing ‘habit’ of one story a day, minimum on medium.com I have realized a few things:

  1. I MISS IT when I don’t do it or when I skip a day.
  2. I think I’ve improved as a writer.
  3. I like the idea of writing a variety of topics and subjects.
  4. It is a great discipline.
  5. I like meeting and interacting with fellow writers.

So, I am SHOWING UP and doing the work daily.

I’m on my path and I will not stop.

I will keep writing daily no matter what.
