A resurrected poem

This poem was loosely inspired by the book Sabriel by Garth Nix. I highly suggest putting it in your “to be read” pile!
When I was just but one and three Death said come lie down with me A river flowed through, dark and deep And if I stayed, my soul would keep
It was cool and peaceful there More so than I can even share Although I felt myself at home It was still time for me to roam
Who are you, and why so aware? It’s almost more than I alone can bear. For most I meet I wrap it up Zipped in tight — don’t spill that cup
On a blue moon I’d let it out But no one really knew that route. Now it’s here to say and stay, Two worlds can be a price to pay
Some will say it’s not enough Others try to call my bluff But if you listen carefully Your future in my eyes you’ll see
Trust that all that comes to light Is not without an inner fight. Hear it not for certainty But for your own echoes in eternity.
