Equity Is What We Are In Need Of, Not Equality!

It has come to my attention that equality is often used in replace of equity — Equality assumes that everyone has the same resources or opportunities, whereas equity not only acknowledges people’s different circumstances, but provides them with appropriate supports to ensure that they achieve fair outcomes.

I’m keen on language and its ability to alienate the people that it intends to support.

In conclusion, equality fails to acknowledge that there’s not an even playing field — It’s necessary that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices are not only adopted, but shaped by those that it’s intended for.
