Shell is a European energy supermajor based in the United Kingdom. It has operations all over the globe, with a particular focus on West African and Southeast Asian offshore production and trading markets.

In a news report by Offshore Energy it was announced that a subsidiary of Shell, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), successfully carried out and completed a drilling operation using a remotely operated controls system (ROCS) technology.

According the company’s findings, the ROCS technology allows Shell to lower its overall carbon footprint during the production process, particularly during well-completion operations, while also reducing the need for more advanced equipment.

Shell CEO Wael Sawan has been tasked to spearhead the company’s energy transition strategy, but many of the company’s investors have been dissatisfied with progress made toward phasing out fossil-fuel projects.

This sentiment was revealed during Shell’ s Capital Markets Day on 14 June 2023. Investor’s even shared an open letter where they specifically mentioned the CEO’s comments at the Capital Markets Day held in June.

Here’s what they wrote in the letter:

“The recent announcements at and after the capital markets day deeply concern us… We can only hope the optics of the CMD announcements are deceiving us and that Shell continues its path as a leader in the energy transition.”

I also watched the presentation given by Shell CEO Wael Sawan at the CMD. I found his concluding remarks about the company’s global market strategy to be pretty straight-forward: “In short, we will deliver more value, with less emissions.”
