Soon, the wagon is rumbling through the forest. You make good progress on the forest road, which is flat and fairly straight. There’s no longer anyone around — at least, nobody that you can see from the road.
The elves now pick up their bows again, and you do the same, remembering some of the mysterious creatures you have seen in the wilderness, from trolls to spiders. It’s important that you aren’t caught unawares.
And as evening starts to fall, you notice something keeping pace with you, just out of clear sight on the road behind. You only catch the occasional glimpse; it runs like a wolf, but is much larger.
“What the heck is that?” you ask the others, pointing.
“Ahh!” gasps Polkin, his eyes widening. “It’s a dire panther! Those are mighty hard to shake off. We are going to need to fight.”
A second later, the huge, muscular black animal runs even faster than before. It is now only a dozen yards behind you.
“Shoot!” cries Chantilla.

Skip the next part, and read on from ‘Overnight’.If you hit it four times or fewer, follow the instructions below.Despite your best efforts and that of the elves, only a few arrows land in the beast, and these serve mainly to enrage it! It manages to run alongside you, dodging through the trees, then puts on another burst of energy and rounds the wagon, snarling at the pony that is pulling you.
You have no choice but to draw weapons and face it, or the pony will be killed…

Together with the efforts of the elves, you manage to drive it off.Overnight
At last, you are able to proceed in safety.
“Are there a lot of dangerous animals around here?” you ask, as the wagon rumbles further along the forest track.
Queen Arriana narrows her eyes, looking away. “There didn’t used to be. This place is called the Feyglades because it was an elf home, originally. We have our home town of Fey Serene. But in the past, different tribes of elves lived all through the forest, and the forest itself extended much further north and west, to the far reaches of Primatria Island. Some of those tribes are long gone, now.
“I see. And your tribe rejected you as queen?”
She now looks directly at you. “Some want a change in how things have run, and I have come to accept that. What choice do I have? I haven’t been back to Fey Serene yet, though. I have communicated with my most loyal followers through other means.”
“And what have you learned?”
She sighs, looking at her niece and nephew for a moment. A few weeks ago, I would have said a compromise is possible. But now that looks unlikely. A corrupt elf by the name of Blackbottle seems to be controlling things now.”
“Not a friend of yours?”
“Far from it. I hope that we can find enough friendly faces that want to hear my case. But if it comes to a fight, you’ve shown yourself to be resourceful. I hope you will come to my aid.”
You nod, then look around, noticing some movement in the branches. “I will. And we’d best be watchful. There could be more dangerous animals around.”
“Relax,” says Polkin gently. “You are in elven lands now. You might not see them, but our people guard these trees. No harm will come to us here.”
You look around, confused. “Are they gonna come and talk?”
“They are merely patrolling,” says the Queen. “They won’t make contact. We should rest overnight, and can do so safely. In the morning, we will move on to Fey Serene to make our case.”
