Poetry | Writing Prompt

Eh, Fickle You Say?

Guess we will see about that; or maybe not

Image by Ralph Klein from Pixabay

Tear it up she said, the prompt thrown at our feet Tell us all about “Fickle”, don’t miss a beat Allow for only the merest of thoughts to fill your brain Cogitate not; you hesitate in vain

Toss out the words before they slip away into the mist Tell us all about “Fickle”, just give us the gist Fickle me this, fickle me that Don’t be shy with your words, just do it; that’s that

It’s almost as if, somehow guided by divine light Sherry believes we can just regurgitate words like an incontinent playwright Tell us all about “Fickle”, she emits the barest snicker Just make up a poem; what could be slicker?

Well, you might be right Ms. McGuinn, maybe we can Just conjure up some words, and sound like there was always a plan But if I were a fickle man, might I not say I was swamped? There is no possible way I could answer this prompt

For I am busy you see, I have tasks to pursue Empires to build, cities to conquer; generally, I have shit to do So why would I ever sit like a lump in front of this screen, Typing out words like some poetry machine?

Maybe it’s the challenge, trying to get things just right Or maybe I am just easily distracted; blinded by the light Of some shiny new prompt, so casually offered around That I simply can’t resist the dare; one so profound

That challenges my very ethos; shall I? Maybe not? Even if I choose to not create, hasn’t it pervaded my thought? So, whether I choose to engage, or ignore out of hand Either way I am exposed; one fickle man

Thanks Sherry McGuinn! I have been in a creative slump when it comes to writing lately and wouldn’t have done anything without your prompt today. So, muchas gracias!
