How did I choose my niches?

Wow, I didn’t know there was a coffee maker brand named Niche. I can say I learned something new today.

I already drank my coffee. But seeing this, I go to make another one.

I am not here to talk about coffee makers, anyway.

I want to write about having a niche on Medium.

Is one niche enough on Medium?

When I started to write on Medium, I chose the gaming niche.

My first 10–20 articles are related to gaming.

In the beginning, I read many stats articles. I was intrigued they were performing so well. But I wasn’t into writing about something trendy.

After some time, I started to write about them, too. As expected, my results started looking different. Also, I started liking it.

The best part of writing about writing and Medium is you learn better.

Jijo George highlighted this idea in his article Best Way To Learn Anything.

If I had started to write about Medium, I wouldn’t reached so many milestones.

I know some say to stick to one niche.

To answer the question from the title, yes, one niche is enough.

Focusing on one thing, in general, yes, can bring different results.

What do you do when there is stuff you would like to write about but you know they do not perform well?

That’s the moment when you should not stick to a single niche!

I have up to ten topics I could write about. Writing about all of them wouldn’t be the best choice. I don’t want to confuse my readers.

So, I had to make a choice that included pleasure, results, and value.

What do I mean by that?

If you want to write about more topics, choose them like this:

— One niche you like to write about! —

— A trendy niche! —

— A niche you know you could bring value with. —

So, you can choose up to three niches!

Is it too much?

I don’t think so.

I mean, we have writers that write about one single topic.

Why shouldn’t we have writers that write about more topics? Haha!

Anyway, at the moment, my articles are into gaming, Medium, and relationships.

I chose to write about more topics because it is good for my mental.

If I would write about gaming only, it would have been time wasted in terms of earnings.

If I would write about Medium only, I would feel guilty.

If I wrote only about relationships, I would have given the impression that I am too serious.

And I am not, haha!

The best part is that I know any of these topics can bring value.

The advantage of having more niches is that you can’t run out of ideas.

If you go to my profile, you will notice that I haven’t written anything about gaming in the last two weeks.

Or, I am not in the right mood to write about Medium. I can pick something else from gaming or relationship topics.

As advice,

don’t pick niches you don’t know anything about.

I chose these niches because I have experience with them in real life.

I play games, I write on Medium, I am married!

You will never see me writing something like Do this to make $1000 on YouTube if I didn’t make any cent on it.

You got the point!
