Eau de Family: A Parody
What stays behind
This poem is TAKE TWO on my poem “Essence of Family,” published in Illumination. Here’s the original.
And now the parody:
Eau de Family
She realizes that no one stripped their beds. Just as she discovers their dirty dishes in the kitchen, the bathroom, the living room floor.
They galloped in with clutter and soiled laundry. Trailing dirt like a Peanuts character.
Yet, for a moment, sweet smells of yesterday were recalled. Baby head, toddler breath, teenage sweat.
Now only the fragrance of moist Keds and last night’s nachos lingers, A bouquet too heady for her delicate olfaction.
Detergent and Lysol quell the aroma And the fragrance of dog and steamed broccoli soon rebound
Until the wind blows them back home again.
