Earnings, reads, followers galore — My first month on Medium
Here are the exciting stats
Yes, I will be one of those writers sharing stats, earnings, and all thoughts relating to being a Medium writer.
And you know why?
Because I LOVE reading about others’ successes, challenges, and questions, and transparency helps us all achieve our goals by knowing exactly what to do.

So let’s get to the numbers
Followers
After one month on Medium, I have 395 followers. I made 100 in the first week, which tracks to about 100 every week. My June Medium goal is to hit 500 followers. So maybe in the next five days, I can make it!
Views and Reads
This is an interesting chart to me. I was excited about the views, but it’s really the reads that matter. If no one reads it, then what’s the point?
I’m not sure I like this ratio, so I have to figure out how to convert more of the views into reads. Perhaps catchier headlines?
I sorted my articles by reading to see which ones had the highest amounts. In theory, this should coincide with my highest-earning articles. Another interesting discrepancy is that some of my articles have a lot of comments but do not show up in the high reads list. So perhaps people are just skimming, and Medium doesn’t count it?
So, let’s talk money.
I have only been monetized for three weeks because you need to have 100 followers to join the Medium Partner Program.
But in those three weeks, I have made a whopping $10.72. Which, hey, pays for my monthly subscription. So, it will be exciting to see what month 2 brings!
So, I’m not entirely sure why the articles with the most reads do not exactly match up to my earnings. If you understand the algorithm or the pay, please feel free to leave a comment.
