Summary

The webpage presents an interactive, "choose your own" fiction story titled "Drabble STORY ARC #2: Seek and Avenge," specifically the chapter "Double Trouble," where the protagonist encounters an imposter who plans to take over their life.

Abstract

The narrative unfolds as the protagonist wakes up after a battle with orcs, only to find themselves facing an armored figure identical to them. This mysterious double, revealed to be the childhood enemy Zaroph, traps the protagonist in a net and boasts about their plan to usurp the protagonist's life. The story is part of a collaborative project where readers can contribute by writing subsequent 100-word drabbles or suggesting ideas in the comments. This chapter also serves as a response to a writing challenge, adhering to specific prompts and constraints to spark creativity.

Opinions

  • The story is designed to engage readers actively by allowing them to contribute to the narrative, indicating a community-driven approach to storytelling.
  • The author, JF Danskin, is open to collaboration and encourages other writers, such as Jay C Wells, to participate in the ongoing story, fostering a sense of collective creativity.
  • The inclusion of specific elements like a blue jay, the sun, and a net, along with the phrase "OMG - Twinsies!" and a dialogue between the two characters, suggests a playful and strategic approach to writing, with an emphasis on creativity within constraints.
  • The story challenge, with its point system, is seen as a fun way to motivate writers to think outside the box and adhere to the given prompts.
  • The use of litotes in the first line and the meeting of the two "You" characters are highlighted as particularly challenging and rewarding aspects of the writing exercise.

This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. Head back to the start by JF Danskin, or read the previous chapter, ‘Slaughter and Mayhem’ or ‘Orcs and Close Combat’. Find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here. It’s also a writing challenge response — see below!

You awake to the sound of a bluejay, and recall the slain orcs. Not a bad day’s work…

Pulling yourself to your feet, you shade your eyes from the sun, and look around. An armored figure stands in the trees. It looks exactly like… you!

The figure hurries off. You follow, baffled and scared.

As you pass between trees, something snags you.

You are caught in a net!

Then your double emerges. “OMG. Twinsies!” they say to you, sneering.

“What the…”

You recognise your childhood enemy, Zaroph. There's no ‘double’…

“An imposter!”

They grin. “And I’m taking over your life.”

This is a collaborative story. Please feel free to join in and add a chapter, furthering the story in any way you like. Each main part of the story (not including choices and blurb) should be a 100-word drabble. Or drop suggestions in the comments!

And check out some other collaborative CYOA stories below.

This chapter was also a response to Monday Mashup #15 from Jonathon Sawyer. I challenge Jay C Wells to try next week’s mashup :)
