Summary

The website content discusses the rise of fraudulent activities during the COVID-19 pandemic and the author's frustration with such scammers, leading to the creation of a haiku expressing anger towards them.

Abstract

The author of the web content expresses disappointment over the increase in scams and fraudulent activities taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Consumer Finance Protection Bureau is cited warning about various coronavirus-related scams, including those offering vaccines, cures, or soliciting donations for fake charities. The emotional response to these fraudulent actions has led the author to compose a haiku that reflects a darker mood rather than the humorous satire initially intended. The haiku conveys a bleak outlook on the greed and immorality of those exploiting the vulnerable during a crisis.

Opinions

  • The author is angered by the opportunistic behavior of scammers exploiting people's fears amidst the pandemic.
  • There is a sense of disillusionment with humanity, as the author observes that crises can bring out the worst in people.
  • The author finds it difficult to maintain a humorous perspective in the face of such blatant greed and deception.
  • The piece suggests that the pandemic has not only caused health and economic issues but also moral and ethical dilemmas due to the actions of fraudsters.
  • The author's late-night reflections on the news, instead of engaging in more pleasant activities like reading, have led to a somber creative output.

We want to think the worst times bring out the best in people. Unfortunately, often the worst times let the worst people cause even more harm than usual. The Consumer Finance Protection Bureau warns:

Scammers are taking advantage of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to con people into giving up their money. Though the reason behind their fraud is new, their tactics are familiar. Be on the watch for:

Scams offering COVID-19 vaccine, cure, air filters, testing Fake coronavirus-related charity scams “Person in need,” scams

I was angry at greedy people preying on other people, taking advantage of their fears and worries in these times, and couldn’t write a funny satire as requested. This came out instead.

Thieves abound, greedy

Fraudsters prey on the helpless

Grasping still in Hell

Timothy Key had written a funny story and invited everyone to respond in kind and let him know about it.

I can’t wait for your responses!

Sorry, Timothy. This happens when it is 2 A.M., you can’t sleep and you watch the news instead of reading an enjoyable book. Before you know it you are writing depressing haiku and creating images of the nether regions.
