Donald Trump Is Struggling With Trial Dates
President Trump is currently having difficulty managing his court dates. He claims that his trials should be put off until after the 2024 major election. Most notably, he asked that the indictment in the District of Columbia be held off until 2026. The District Attorney of the District of Columbia has set the trial date for March 4th. This outraged Trump, and he quickly made a statement saying that he would appeal the decision.
Trump’s lawyer, John Lauro, who is representing Trump in the case, has said that Trump has a right to appeal his trial dates. Legal experts believe otherwise, saying that the defendant in this case would only be able to appeal the case until after the verdict. John Lauro said that he would fight the court in order to change the decision. The August 28th hearing has already passed, and the court date has not changed. Lauro claims that the court violated Trump’s executive privileges and his First Amendment rights.
Donald Trump has three other trials in different states. One in Georgia for election fraud, one in Florida for mishandling classified documents, and another in New York for mishandling classified documents. His first trial is said to start the day before Super Tuesday. Super Tuesday is especially important in the South, and it is when candidates really get to shine. Donald Trump claims that the court date is unfair. He is trying everything in his power to change his court dates.
House Republicans are even making a statement over Trump’s court dates. Andrew Clyde said that he would make a law prohibiting the prosecution of major candidates before an election. Marjorie Taylor Greene said that she would try to defund the prosecution cases against Donald Trump. Most Republicans are outraged over Donald Trump’s indictments, but he still has the lead.
Donald Trump is currently leading the GOP nomination race by 46 percent. Ron Desantis is trailing Donald Trump by a lot, and other Republican candidates are trailing. Nikki Haley is currently third with 8 percent of the Republican first vote, and fourth is Ramaswamy with 5 percent of the Republican first vote. Donald Trump’s court trials should not be an issue for him in the Republican Party. But the entire world is looking at him right now, even after the mugshot. The average American’s view of Donald Trump has diminished.
Other candidates in the Republican Party are currently attacking Trump by using his indictments against him. Nikki Haley called Trump’s indictments a “distraction.” Chris Christie said that Donald Trump only wants to be president so he can put himself first. There are definitely more indictments coming. For example, the indictment in New York claims that Donald Trump made hush money payments before 2016. Maybe the DOJ will find more indictments to place against Donald Trump. This would make it disastrous for Donald Trump to run in 2024.
Donald Trump also wants his trials to come after the election, possibly to buy time. Lawyers need time to formulate a strategy in order to fight a case. If Trump can hold his cases until after the election, then it would make it easier for him to win. Currently, Donald Trump and his team are encumbered with legal tasks. Donald Trump is struggling to keep up with his trial dates.
