Does Your Writing Sound Like It’s Sealed in a Burlap Sack? Try These 3 Habits

Between all the writing practices, you often forget to sound logical.

I have a task for you:

Go to Google.com and write: “how to write better.” You’ll receive countless suggestions, some of which would be courses and programs. Because you and I know writing is tricky, you decide to pay $313 and enroll yourself in a class.

The course duration is six months. Getting better is your main reason for enrolling in this course.

But Heather Monthie disagrees. According to her, most writing courses are scams. Because writing is a lucrative and high-paying skill, not everyone can become rich by writing overnight.

Writing needs to be tailored according to the target audience. You gain these experiences through years of practice. No course or writing masterclass can help you clear the “hardworking” dirt from your garden. It’s your job to do so.

The longer you wait for courses, friends, and completion to get you started as a writer, the longer you suffer. At one point, your writing sounds like it has been shut and enclosed in a burlap sack.

Below are three tips for getting out of a writing-strangling mess with effective solutions.

1. Re-use the waste

My mom never threw things away.

At some point, we allocated a designated drawer for my mom to store her leftover items.

My mom believed in healthy recycling. She never there cauliflower leaves, leftover oats, or rotten fruits to fertilize plants. You can use the same strategy in your writing. Before you hop on your journey to writing for Forbes, Inc. or Medium, try freestyle writing.

Write about anything you like ranging from prompts to book reviews, etc. Keep the wheel running.

How to apply?

Alberto García 🚀🚀🚀 writes daily.

Maintaining a rhythm is important in writing.

Rhythm makes your writing better. Don’t suppress yourself in writing articles daily. Write anything that makes you feel happy. Writing freestyle helps you have more backup articles that you can publish or use as letter samples in your book. Use the methods below to write freestyle:

You can also write about something you’re happy/upset about or your goals (short/long) term.

2. Try to make sense

Fact: writing is not just writing.

Writing is part psychology, formatting, the sudden urge to skill yourself, hate everybody, and whatnot. Don’t you ever say writing is just as simple as flinging words on paper?

Between all these practices, we often need to remember to make sense of our writing. Understanding, in other words, means:

  • Logic
  • Flow

When you work so much on your headline and subtitle, you increase the bounce rate of your article because, in the end, the reader wants satisfactory results with the body copy.

Happens a lot. Your article must make sense, flow, and have logic. If that’s absent from your writing, you’re just wasting your time on headlines and subtitles, trying to fool yourself.

How to apply?

Making sense is an easy process. Here’s what I do:

  1. Overnight oats: I plan the articles I want to write 2–3 days before. I write the topic or headline I want to write about.
  2. Boil: Next, I write the listicles and intro paragraph concerning the headlines. Whichever headlines and listicles get completed first, I plan to write on that subject the next day.
  3. Grind: I repeat the same process every day.

I let my mind decide the article I want to write.

After planning the headline, listicle, and into paragraphs, writing gets way easier. Next, you can add quotes and research to complete your paper. Make sure that all of these things work in a flow.

And for flow to come, plan a day/days before.

3. Don’t write like AI

I promise you, that’s a real thing.

Many people don’t know, but they write in a way that sounds straight from AI, as Fatunla Samuel agrees.

Here’s what happened, actually:

  • You have no life in your article
  • You have soo much information your article is drowning in it
  • Your article is all over the place

Listen to me: I know you want to write ’bout how you proposed to a girl on the first date. But does it make sense when you’re writing about productivity?

You have to choose. You can only write about some things. If something is not creating the logic, your dating experience can wait.

How to apply?

Don’t force writing.

Medium is an independent platform. You can write about your dating experience in a separate article, but let’s spare this productivity article. Don’t confuse readers.

Readers don’t owe you anything. They’d skip your article if you failed to make sense. If you wish to write about your experience, here’s what you can do:

  • Create a separate medium blog profile
  • Redirect readers to a particular link using words such as (read the full story here)
  • Add a summary of the event

Again, you have to let things go. You cannot stuff 1lb chicken in a wrap. Similarly, you cannot squeeze your life’s worth of experience into one article.

Bonus Points:

I can speak six languages.

Because of that, writing is way harder for me. I sometimes forget words because I am multilinguistic. To avoid that, I only make my default language “English.” I speak, watch Netflix, read books, communicate, and write in English because I don’t want to fool myself by sounding like a non-native speaker.

If you struggle to write properly, it’s time you switch your daily lifestyle related to the topic you like.

For me, it’s watching self-improvement videos in English.
