Do You Know Why the Obeya Is the Ideal Leadership and Management Tool?
Optimize your management!
Introduction and review
As I wrote in my last article about Obeya:
There are similarities to lean management, continuous improvement, and agility. Working with Obeya helps to conduct meetings that lead to meaningful alignment.
Obeyas make collaboration easier. 💡 Born at Toyota’s automotive development, the Obeya also functions as a strategy and leadership hub.
The Obeya is a team spirit improvement tool at an administrative level.
Obeya is a perfect tool
Why is the Obeya an ideal leadership and management tool?
One important reason is the everyday information overload of managers. Mails, business figures, reports, and so on. This overwhelms managers with many tasks.
Few companies succeed in clearly communicating the company mission. Even fewer companies succeed in formulating a strategy. Derive goals from it and plan activities to achieve these goals.
An Obeya enables direct collaboration and coordination with colleagues in less time. Direct dialogues reduce complexity.
You avoid mistakes in thinking, because others may see solutions where you only notice problems!
The Obeya also creates time to think through tasks in greater detail and attention.
Economic scandals in recent years, e.g. the VW diesel scandal, are based on the well-known “management by objectives”.
The goals set in this process are often too short. They are sometimes wrong or exclude each other.
In Obeya, meaningful goals result from a mutual coordination process. Obeya questions goals if they don’t make sense.
Finally, the Obeya focuses on the big picture.
Conclusion
The Obeya helps to determine goals together, to develop a strategy, and to implement it.
It avoids mistakes and focuses on the big picture.
