Abstract

The author, known as Lucy (The Eggcademic), has noticed a prevalent theme of dreams in their writings over the past year. Despite not consciously dwelling on dreams during waking hours, they have unconsciously woven this motif into their work. The exploration of dreams began with a poem about robot dreams that adhered to a vowel challenge, followed by pieces capturing the essence of déjà vu, absurd post-apocalyptic scenarios with functional technology, and a sensory haiku equating food to a dream-like experience. The journey concludes with a harrowing recurring nightmare, "Lasagna Man," which includes a content warning for mentions of blood and flesh. The author invites readers to share their main writing themes from 2020, indicating an interest in the broader landscape of literary preoccupations.

Do you ever look back on all you’ve written in a year and notice any themes? For me, the word that comes up quite often is dream.

I was surprised! I know have pretty vivid dreams, but I don’t spend many daylit hours really thinking about them. Yet, they prevail!

It all started with robot dreams (and a vowel poem challenge)…

…To evoking that feeling of a cliffhanger…

…To describing two of my quite absurd dreams that I very much did have…

…To describing food as a dream (okay, kinda did expect that one there)…

…To finally, my most recent: a recurring nightmare that’s surprisingly resilient (cw: blood mention)…

Lucy (The Eggcademic) [she/her] wants to hear about what your main writing themes were for 2020!
