Displaced

Poetry

Refugee Camp (Image by Author)

Born into umbra, Between darkness and light, The sun’s dirty white,

The moon’s arsenic gray.

Love belied by ashes, Joy’s rotted brown, Peace jaundiced,

Hope blanched.

Muddied betrayal, Bloody rage, Indigo despair,

Stygian oppression.

Fugitive pigments in refugee orange, Crowd under bleached tents on desecrated ground, Wary of what will happen,

If they sink too low or rise too high.

Currently, 108.4 million people worldwide have been forcibly displaced from their homelands as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations, or events seriously disturbing public order. Many live in managed or self-settled refugee camps in war-torn and underdeveloped countries. Two out of three refugee children live in extreme poverty on less than $1.90 per day . If interested, you may donate to the United Nations Refugee Agency.
