WRITING ON MEDIUM
Discover Joy and Earnings through Medium Writing Challenges
A Poem and A Gratitude Moment
the Challenged August Daily Prompt suggested by Jennifer Dunne: What event turned out nothing like you expected, in either a good or bad way?
⭐My first writing prompt response published in the Challenged on August 18, 2023! The experience turned out nothing like I expected, in every good way possible. This is a poem about that experience.⭐
bow down to the power of words inviting us down memory lane to reignite passions hidden away and discover what’s within
6 short words, 37 characters sometimes more, maybe less a question is all it takes to travel back in time and space
feel the excitement hear the voices see the colors, visit a friend reminisce in high definition.
Power of Words
The 6 short words that took me back in time were “What are your thoughts on road trips?” I never would have expected this simple yet thoughtful prompt to reignite my passion for writing poetry, bring me back to one of my best childhood summers ever, and help me discover joy within a fun and talented Medium community. Oh yes, and it made me some money too!
In that story published on August 18th, I wrote about an adventure from when I was 10 years old. I created a poem, added discussion, and found happiness along the way.
A Spark Within
If you have not yet tried writing a prompt response, I highly recommend it. You never know what the question may spark in you. In me, it sparked poetry. It was the first time in decades that I wrote a poem and the first time ever that I’ve shared a poem publicly.
Reminiscing in High Definition
Memories flooded in 3 short lines at a time and became the most beautifully unexpected thing ever.
And then entered the Medium community!
Grateful to “the Challenged” Community
This community, a combination of the editors, writers, and readers of the Challenged, is absolutely amazing. I received the most supportive, fun, and heartwarming comments and the most claps I’ve ever seen on one of my stories. And the whole entire story was highlighted!
The success of my story and the joy I’ve received publishing with the Challenged is mostly due to the already existing posts within this publication. Every day I read so many inspiring challenge responses. It brings me happiness to fully engage with the stories and then write my own.
As I read, clap, highlight, and respond, I learn about people and various topics, I’m entertained, and I’m touched by so many life stories.
And Then There’s the Money
Yes, I’m really excited to see earnings from that story. It isn’t a lot but it’s more than expected, and I am truly thankful for any amount. I think the earnings came partially (and hopefully) because I wrote an enjoyable piece but I mostly credit them to the supportive and engaged the Challenged community.
For me, the joy really comes more from the comments and claps and highlights — the excitement surrounding the story.
For a few seconds, I took some readers to a carefree, fun time in life.🛻
I am so grateful to have had this experience on Medium. It truly brought me happiness. Remember to embrace new challenges, writing or otherwise, because you never know what beauty and joy you’ll discover.
Here’s the road trip story, in all its glory…
