The Most Fabulous 5-Minute Road Trip

A poem and then some…

the Challenged August Daily Prompt suggested by Adrienne Beaumont: What are your thoughts on road trips? Did you have a fabulous one? An awful one?

age 10 with cousin also age 10 dad picks us up in the pickup truck we hop in the back on a sunshiny day

city kids acting like we’re in the country no cover, no seat belt, no care in the world the ride was legal back then

jumping the hills at full speed bouncing out of our seats at every intersection were there even stop signs? I guess we’ll never know

wind blowing in our hair not a care just good ole’ summer fun

a 5-minute road trip that’s exactly what it was from the top of the hill back home

life was so simple back then just a pickup truck and some wind.

My thoughts on road trips? I’ve been on so many and have endless memories of them — singing funny songs to stay awake, scary drives through the snow, hours upon hours of boredom, beautiful scenery to my heart’s delight, watching the sunrise, caravaning with friends.

But my first thought when I read the prompt was this carefree childhood moment of joy. It may be the shortest road trip that anyone will ever write about, but in my mind, it was the best. Fabulous road trips are not defined by their length or destination or scenery but by the way they made you feel and all the memories they created.

Thank you for reading and engaging! Cheers to many more memorable road trips filled with happiness and wonder!🛻
