The prisoner shivers as cold water rolls down his face and soaks into his chest, mixing with crusted flecks of blood and swirling into a shade of pink before dripping onto the floor.

“Is that the best you’ve got?” he asks. “If I had known you’d be so gentle, I would’ve asked for dinner first.”

Heat flushes through your body, and you strike his face with the empty goblet.

He winks. “That’s a little better.”

His taunt echoes in your head. You grab a dagger from the altar. The sharp edge of cold steel presses against the prisoner’s bruised neck.
