“I am not contributing anymore to her lifestyle,” Lorna protested in the family meeting with her three cousins at her home. Her eyes were on Jemma, across from her around the rectangular table in the breakfast nook in her kitchen.

“I will pay you back when I get my big break,” Jemma pleads.

“You have been waiting for your big break for more than thirty years!” Lorna screamed in anger.

Kelly and Denise, who sandwiched her, both took her hands, to calm the anger that was reeling from the many years they had been sacrificing themselves and their families to help Jemma. Whose big break was around the corner that kept eluding her at every turn.

Silence allows reality and the truth to explode in hearts, minds, souls, actions, choices, decisions, whys, how, when, needs, wants, etc.

Kelly and Denise released their hold on Lorna’s hand, as their eyes slowly turned to Jemma.

Awareness injected memories that anchor reality as they slide back more than thirty years to the many times, they deny themselves of the basics to help their cousin. That continued for years while she waited for her big break.

“I got this,” Kelly assured covered in anger. “All of us started from the bottom with nothing. We fight, make sacrifices, deny ourselves of the pleasures of life with the hope of a better future. . .” she paused as the pain became unbearable.

Denise grabbed control, “We started small because that’s the sensible and only route available to us. You refused to start from the bottom because you didn’t want the hard work, sacrifices, pain, struggles, lessons, etc. that live there. Unaware, that’s where your root lies, and your hard work will strengthen and anchor you, so when or if you fall, you have strength and wisdom from lessons learned to help you to restart.”

Silence roared and Jemma swayed her head, then nonchalantly said, pointing at Lorna, “So you are joining her and refusing to help me!”

Shock paralyzed them briefly and Denise said after releasing shock, “We agree with her. For years we supported you while you waited for your big break. No one starts at the top.”

“Damn right,” Lorna agrees. “You have wasted more than thirty years of your life, waiting for the impossible. Girl, don’t you know that when you start at the top, there is only one route and it’s down.”

“With no life lessons and strength to learn from or hold on to when you are falling,” Kelly adds.

Denise scored a home run, “are you aware that if you get your big break now, you have no life lessons or experiences to keep it flowing?”

Silence maintained its presence as all four ladies absorbed what was said.
