Did You Know That Indecision is Nothing More Than a Bad Habit

You can overcome your indecisive behavior simply by adding one small word into your routine called action.

If you have trouble deciding, you have been unrealistically practicing perfectionism or you’re trying to project a flawless outcome with no forward action.

In other words, trying to predict every possible conclusion with pinpoint accuracy just by thinking about it alone will only keep you in a holding pattern. Flying in circles until you figure out how to land the plane without crashing… but you will never figure that out until you actually put your tires to the pavement and land.

Eventually, this will happen anyway. You will keep flying in circles until you run out of fuel, to be forced into landing the plane whether or not you’re ready. You might as well attempt to land with some fuel left just in case you have to throttle back up to correct your course.

In comparison, that analogy can apply to every decision in life that you have to decide for, so if you are indecisive, it was more than likely learned by an influence when you were developing your cognitive skills. Then you just kept acting out indecisiveness until it was nothing more than a bad habit.

Practice making up your mind.

Yes, it’s a practice, just like juggling. You will never learn how to juggle until you drop quite a few balls.

Start small if you have to for building confidence, but start somewhere. Take action on whatever thoughts you feel could make a positive difference in either your or someone else’s life. Take a chance on doing something a little risky. Start a side business. Who knows, it might just turn into your own company.

When a thought comes to mind, instead of trying to over-analyze it 387 times before you decide to do anything about it, DO some kind of action toward that thought rather than just thinking about it.

Invest in something and make that something… YOU!

Put some legs on those thoughts and take the first step towards it. Once that one is done, take the next one.

Nobody ever knows the end game conclusion to anything and most of the time you won’t even know the outcome of your first step, but I can tell you this… you’ll get nowhere just thinking about it.

To get this out of the way… No, not everything is going to work out the way you expected. You’re not always going to succeed, and you more than likely are going to lose a bit of time & money in the process.

Hey, if anything else, you just learned what not to do next time. Get back in the game and try again… and again… and again… until you DO succeed.

That, my friends, is a recipe for success.

JUST DO IT!

I started this article with the words “Indecision is a habit,” because it popped into my head without knowing what to write after that, but as soon as I wrote them, more words came to mind… so I wrote those down too.

What you’ve read so far has been a series of words strung together, one thought at a time, one action to that thought at a time until the sentence you just read, which wasn’t planned when I started this paragraph. It just keeps building on the last thought, word, sentence, paragraph, and eventually, an entire article.

Don’t stop there… that article could be part of a chapter, and that chapter could then turn into a book.

The point is; that you can apply this concept to everything in life.

Relationships, business, outreaches, organizations, writing, photography, travel, and the list is literally endless.

So what are you waiting for?

Pick a thought, sit down, and plan as far as you can. Leave your unrealistic expectations of figuring out how it’s all going to play out. You’ll figure that out along the way. Just start.

  • Thought… write it down.
  • Thought… Ask a question.
  • Thought… Make a phone call.
  • Thought… Action.
  • Thought… Action.

Notice a pattern here?

Take what is in your head, throw it into reality by strapping a jet pack to it and go.

There comes a time that the planning must stop and the doing must start.

Filter through the random nonsense, pick a thought, wind it up, let it go, and then follow it to where it leads you.

To weed through the random nonsense, after you write a bunch of thoughts, let them marinate for a while to see if they take root. A few hours or days later, if you reread your ever-expanding list, the nonsense will blow off in the wind, and the ones that stick around… put in the action category.

Recap…

  • Indecision is a bad habit.
  • We can replace bad habits with better habits.
  • We can turn thoughts into actions.
  • Come up with a routine when a thought presents itself.

For example…

  • Thought… 3…2…1… Action
  • And Go!
