The flu mixed with rain —photo by author edited using LunaPic

It’s a leap year which means I get an extra day here in Mexico before I have to return to Canada to experience the remainder of a Canadian winter. This morning when I checked my Medium stats, I noticed that this will be my 900th post, as well as my 125th post for this journal. I would have never predicted this when I started here at the end of September 2022. It has been almost a year and a half here.

It has rained for three days here in Sayulita. I know that the visitors, who have only a short time to experience a semi-tropical locale, are quite disappointed. Beginning this morning, that all changes. We woke up to clear skies and a promised temperature in the mid-twenties Celsius — perfect weather!

I had a minor flu during those three days — talk about good timing — that would have sidelined me from hiking regardless of the weather. The flu also left me with less energy for engaging with other writers here on Medium and that was reflected in less daily earnings. Hopefully, that all changes beginning today.

I am putting up a story that I hadn’t planned on doing here on Medium. I wrote a story for my 14 year old grandson a few years back which were published as two novels. I was surprised at the reception the first chapters have been receiving. As a result, I will continue to put up these chapters, hopefully every second day. The story begins with an introduction the the main character, a thirteen year old boy from Spain who has the personality and appearance of my grandson:

He is one of three main characters. The second character is a thirteen year old girl from Scotland, “Sam,” who mysteriously shares a lot of characteristics with my middle daughter excepting the red hair.

The third character is a boy from Netherlands, Dirk Meister. To be honest, he has some of my personality and physical characteristics when I was a young teenager.

I encourage you to give the story a chance with the reading of these first three chapters. If you don’t care to read the following chapters, I accept that it is either my lack of skill as a writer or simply a story that doesn’t meet your fancy. If you read the chapters, please leave a one-word response “yay” or “nay” as it will then tell me some valuable information as a writer. Of course, you can say more that one word if you have more to say.

Now, it is time for me to get on with my morning and have a small breakfast before we go hiking in the jungle.
