The GOP has destroyed the written and unwritten rules that permitted some semblance of a government that was balanced between our two major parties.
This attempt has been in the works since the 1970s when local talk radio especially in the southern and central states prepared listeners to view ‘liberals’ or Democrats as evil. Rush Limbaugh and Info Wars are their latest manifestations.
White folk who follow the GOP are heavily armed and ready to kill. They have been told who to kill for 50 years. They have already killed in Kenosha, WI. Where else? They are primed and ready now for a big assault.
The GOP have worked feverishly since Reagan to gerrymander states and suppress the vote of any class of person not likely to back them. They have permanent control of state voting at this time. They don’t have to fear any voters who don’t want their white elitist universe imposed on them.
To cement their power, they have worked feverishly to pack the courts at all levels with sympathetic judges who agree property rights and rule by the white elite are de rigueur if we are to have a decent society. They have outlined why their opponents are evil, which permits they and their followers to do anything to us they wish.
They have established conservative Christianity’s dictates, especially with respect to human rights, as our de facto state religion. Guess who has human rights in their universe? Elite white people.
Mitch McConnell has shown that if you control the Senate and the courts, you can do anything you want. He has been our de facto chief executive since 2008. He calls himself the Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper of what? Sure, any legislation that makes Democrats look good, but also, our country.
All the arguments we make for ways to circumvent or ignore this are moot. The coup has already been achieved. The brazen lawsuit by these 17 states, which by the way contain the same set of states that started the Civil War which cost 600,000+ lives, is evidence that the coup has succeeded, whether their shills in the Supreme Court support this or not.
Since the US is dead, what is the next move for those of us who do not want to live in the GOP’s white supremacist universe?
We are no longer bound by the traditional written and unwritten rules the GOP has perverted to take control of the US government. Those rules always contained back doors for this kind of takeover. They were written by Slave Lords, so is that a surprise?
As our ancestors broke with King George, we must now break with King McConnell. Whether Thomas Jefferson meant for women, blacks, natives, and immigrants to have rights in the US, we can take his words and his Declaration of Independence to heart and use its insights and courage to guide us in the difficult days ahead.
