I Got Access to DALL-E 2! Is It Going to Replace You?
Is Artificial Intelligence rapidly replacing all artists?
In a time where AI (Artificial Intelligence) is becoming more and more commonplace, OpenAI wants to create AI systems that will benefit humanity as a whole.
What is DALL-E 2?
DALL-E 2 is one of these AI systems, and I am fortunate enough to be among the first millions to try out the beta.
DALL-E 2 is an AI system that can create realistic images and art from a description in natural language. It can also make edits to existing images, taking shadows, reflections, and textures into account.
In short, this means, you give the Artificial Intelligence a description of an image, and it creates the image for you. You may also modify a portion of an image or create variations of existing photos:
For example, I could tell DALL E 2 to generate “A tree that grows out of a cloud, digital art, high quality and rendered in 4k” and it would do just that:
This photo is generated by the “imagination” of Dalle-2 and doesn’t directly exist on the Internet or elsewhere.
All of this is possible because DALL-E 2 understands the concepts of light, shadow, perspective, and so on. After all, it has learned a lot from over 650 Million images.
The system is still in beta, so there are bound to be some glitches here and there. But overall, I am impressed with what DALL-E 2 is capable of.
The level of detail and realism that Dalle-2 can achieve is truly amazing. I can’t wait to see what this system is capable of in the future.

If you want to get access to DALL-E 2, you can sign up for the waitlist on Openai’s website. Who knows, maybe you’ll be one of the lucky few to get in on the beta!
What does this mean for artists?
Well, it’s hard to say. On one hand, DALL-E 2 could be used to create stunning works of art that never existed before. Or, on the other hand, it could put a lot of artists out of work.
Only time will tell how this technology will impact the world of art. The problem is, that we are living in a world where efficiency and productivity are highly valued.
So you would be at a disadvantage if you were not using DALL-E 2 to create your art, because it can do it faster and sometimes even better than a human.
But i think, we have to remember, that at the end of the day, art is about creativity and imagination. We have to adapt to new technologies, but we should never lose sight of what makes art so special in the first place.

Should we be worried about AI?
It’s hard to say. As with any technology or tool, there are both good and bad applications for it. It’s up to us to use it for the good of humanity.
I don’t think we can stop the advancement of AI. Instead, we should focus on using it for good. AI already helped us in many ways, but is also misused to manipulate and control people.
We should be careful with AI, but not afraid of it. We should embrace it and use it to make the world a better place for everyone. It’s up to the artist or creator to use it in a way that will benefit humanity as a whole.
