Nadia, the barren wife finds the bitter reality she would never give her husband a baby...
The Vain Long Journey
Nadia stumbled outside the hotel and reached a dark place at the corner. She took a hard pain breath and looked up at the dark sky. Her glistening tears had already flooded her eyes.
No words were muttered, but her deep inners cried out to God in anguish! Her broken heart was overlapped with the anger at Him which had then gradually been a anger to all the unfortunate things she has gotten. She felt not blessed and loved by God, by anyone!
She still couldn’t believe, how come someone could speak that such thoughtless thing in the first meet! She isn’t barren like that cruel woman had called her! Nadia argued in her mind.
“One day, I will have a Baby!! Let’s see!” The distressed woman cursed unconsciously. Her soul was filled with a bunch of anger, sadness and also the upset feeling!
Felt dizzy and overwhelmed by the reality she has to deal with for these long years and that the imprudent conversation, this frail woman leaned weakly against the wall and crying in the darkness....
The Future Husband
With the tears flowed like a river, Nadia’s mind then running back to one unforgettable moment eighteen years ago… Tom was walking back from his work one evening and accidentally met her who’d just finished a nursing course she attended.
Nadia born and grew in a small city and came to Dublin to pursue her dream to become a nurse as she knows she’s a very caring person. Absolutely no other intentions in her mind than only for her dream job there. And it’s like a little surprise from God to meet her with this guy whom then fated as her future man…!
She remembered, Tom was just stunned like a statue when they met unintentionally at a pedestrian. She, who was as well feeling impressed by this so handsome and neat man, initiatively addressed the quite “lightheaded” guy and asking if he needs help.
When Tom flustered asking where was a post office located, Nadia who rented a flat near the office, offering to accompany him reaching the place (Nadia then know, it was just Tom’s spontanous trick to have more time talking with her. Of course he knows all the places around this big city!).
That time, in a cold weather along the damp road, they involved in a quite formal but engaging talk (actually very awkward conversation as Tom’s little speaking made the conversation often getting paused).
Actually, in her mind, Nadia wondered how can the very gorgeous guy and a business man like him can be so appears shy and jittery! But she thinks it is cute, though…!
Yes, the first impression she could describe about this guy is, Tom is a cool guy, not so expressive, a bit shy and short speaker. But, as a very instinctive person, she could notice there was sparks of interest in his plaintive eyes! And the thing impressed her more, was Tom offered her to wear his long coat as Nadia was only wearing a cotton nurse dress in cold weather after the heavy rain that night.
That time, just a few walks before the post office, in front of a narrow path between two buildings, they’re separated as Nadia decided to go home. When Tom offered to lead her, she politely rejected it. But he could know where her flat was, as it was located precisely at the end of the path and that three floors building still could be seen from the street.
From his subtle expression, Nadia could see his reluctance to separate. And before left, Tom asked if he allowed to anytime come to her flat, Nadia nodded with a warm heart.
It seems Tom really impressed by their first meet. After that night, they had met two or three times. And, unexpectedly, a month later, he came to her parents to marry her, even when he knew another guy was around her.
Yeah, that time, Mark Lambert, the best friend, had been dating her some moments before Tom coming into her life.
And the charming guy, Tom Mahoney, has sucessfully stolen her heart and she decided to go for this Irish romantic man. When they married, she was about 22 and Tom was 26. They had super luxury wedding as Tom’s family is well-respected to be one of the wealthiest in the country.
But, then….she found a bitter reality that she couldn’t give him a baby…! Eighteen years felt a so long vain journey without a kid…
She remembered, the first months of their marriage, all seemed so perfect. Mrs. Margo and the family liked her so much which made she felt bold to live happily forever with her husband…
But…over the months, then the next 3 years…she didn’t get any sign of pregnancy…. Her worries started to grow…!
The problem in her womb and some other terrible issues within her body began to consume her in fear about never get pregnant. Yes, though she always looks happy and full of passion, actually she’s very infirm physically. That’s why she instinctively wanting to work as a nurse.
Moreover, the whispers about her as a barren wife and the implicit demand to give a birth of baby for the Mahoney’s clan, took her in great anxiousness.
Yet, her husband didn’t seem to feel worry at all, even till now…! He simply wants to relish every moment with her lovely wife for his whole life. He accompanied her in joy and sorrow and taking care of her in the most beautiful ways he could do.
However, to dispel her anxiety, Tom granted his wife’s desire to do pregnancy programme.
Five years ago, they did in vitro fertilisation. Six months after the programme, Nadia began to feel sick. She was confirmed that the programme had succeeded. She got pregnant!!
They almost could not believe the surprising news! Tom was overjoyed, and he began to take extra care of his wife and granting whatever she wanted.
They’re so excited their first baby will be coming in a couple of months ahead. And…one night she got bleeding! And…they must let their baby gone…..
To see that they actually have a prospect, Tom then urged her to do it for the second time. The insemination process was also running well and stated that they would get a twin baby! Tom became over protective this time. He made her lying in bed all days long for several boring months.
And, in the seventh week, he slyly said, he has found the perfect gift for her and the babies. Tom built a new room and a full set of twin boys equipments and its knick knacks! But, again…their babies couldn’t last more than first threemesters….
And the last effort, last year, they gave a try to take the third in vitro fertilisation in Japan. But, still…the fetus couldn’t long enough live and grows in her womb…They flight home almost losing all hope…
Truly, facing a fact that any efforts to make them getting a baby had been done…but no result…has gradually been affecting Nadia’s mental to be more frail and lowering her confidence as a true woman…
In that the dark corner, Nadia stood wobbly, felt miserable by all her unblessed life in the silent griefs…
So, you’re here sweetheart…” A sudden deep but tender voice made her jolted out of the intense sadness! She knew it was her husband.
“What are you doing here…?” Tom said again softly.
She hastily wiped her face which filled with tears.
Tom stared at her in confusion, “What happens…..?”
Immediately, her mother in law’s words came flashing up her mind! Nadia began to cry again, tears down her pale cheeks. It’s so hurts in her throat. She bowed her head to hide the tears from her husband...
