Delighting in the Ordinary

Day 90: Finding joy in everyday life

In the afternoon yesterday, I decided to go through my son’s clothes. He has outgrown the majority of his clothes, and I wanted to sort through them to give them away to a friend with younger kids. As I put the clothes into piles, a quiet sort of joy came over me. Last week I felt a lot of fatigue, so this week with renewed energy, I am catching up on a lot of tasks. Sorting and organizing is something that I love to do. It is a simple pleasure. Every day I find that as I let go, I feel more happiness in my heart. On my 100-day spiritual journey, surrendering each morning has become a part of my routine. This, coupled with studying the book Letting Go, by David R. Hawkins, has helped me feel more joy each day, even when doing seemingly mundane tasks.

Today I feel a renewed energy. This week is all about tying up loose ends, making connections, and stretching myself out of my comfort zone. Letting go has allowed me more freedom to bask in the joy of the ordinary day. Each morning as I surrender during my meditation, I feel any blocks that I had held on to leave me.

In the surrendered state, we are independent of the outer world as a source of satisfaction because the source of happiness has been found within us. -David R. Hawkins

I feel that no matter what comes my way this week, I will be able to face it. I look upon each task on my list as an opportunity to feel happiness. Simple things like washing sheets and towels yesterday gave me a sense of calm. Taking care of my home and environment is a simple pleasure.

As negative thoughts, feelings, and attitudes are relinquished, we re-own the power that we had given over to the world. -David R. Hawkins

Because I let go of anything holding me back each morning by surrendering, I feel much more energy in my body and my mind. I feel more able to focus, to pay attention to details, and to communicate with others. Already some connections have been made this week. I believe that it is due to the letting go process.

My prayer and my intention for you today is that you find joy in all of the tasks you need to do today. What can you enjoy about them? What happiness is in the ordinary? Each activity that you do today has a purpose. Even mundane tasks are sacred. With each action, we fill our spirits up with joy. We are taking on the world with each step!

How can you delight in the ordinary today?
