Summary

The "Human Intelligence (HI) Movement" on Medium is a collective of human writers and readers advocating for authentic, non-AI-generated content, emphasizing the value of human creativity and thought.

Abstract

The "Human Intelligence (HI) Movement" on Medium is a response to the proliferation of AI-generated content that some readers find robotic and soulless. Initiated in 2023, the movement has quickly gained traction, with a growing number of writers and readers committing to human-written stories. These individuals are passionate about using their own minds and souls to create content, eschewing AI tools beyond basic grammar and punctuation checks. The movement calls for proper remuneration for the effort and dedication of human writers, who engage in a rigorous process of thinking, writing, editing, and agonizing over their work before publication. DR Rawson, known as The Possibilist, is recognized as the humble spokesperson and leader of this initiative. The movement is supported by a list of dedicated writers and publications that refuse to publish AI content, emphasizing the importance of human intelligence in storytelling and knowledge sharing.

Opinions

  • The movement originated from a frustration with the prevalence of AI-generated content that lacks the depth and authenticity of human writing.
  • There is a clear distinction being made between AI-generated "pablum" and the rich, thoughtful content produced by human writers

The beginnings

If you are unfamiliar with the “HI: Human Intelligence” Movement on Medium, a brief introduction of its genesis and progression.

Readers began to notice in 2023 — the Year of AI/ChatGTP, a brilliant tool of this modern age gleefully promoted and utilized in myriad ways — that scads of stories sounded robotic and soulless.

Some questioned the source of this “content.” Others began penning stories about AI-Artificial Intelligence use by writers.

I became increasingly frustrated by the time I wasted opening AI pablum. In an early December article, I identified a bloc of 'human writers' and begged for more to announce themselves, admittedly, a selfish plea, as non-AI-using authors.

Fast forward a mere two months later, a movement of a burgeoning number of writers and readers is afoot. Members are loudly proclaiming:

Enough already. We abhor AI-generated dreck. We are committed to writing with our own minds and from our own souls. We are not using AI to write our articles (aside from Grammarly for punctuation and grammar). We are committed to reading other HI/human writers.

We want remuneration to be disseminated to real writers. Those dedicated souls who think, ponder, write, sweat, think more, edit, proofread, rewrite, and agonize before they “click" publish.

The leaderboard

Profound appreciation is extended to DR Rawson - The Possibilist. He is our humble spokesperson, fearless leader, dedicated proponent, and tireless champion.

The burgeoning HI--Human Intelligence Movement continues to grow. Readers want stories written by humans rather than computers and bots.

Any movement needs followers. I am a dedicated one. Others continue pounding the drum, writing poignant, informational, and candid articles. I have undoubtedly missed several — and I apologize to you — but these are those ardent, passionate writers.
