Day Tripping: September 27
Taking Care of Business

Randy Bachman was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1943, and at the age of five, he began his musical career with violin lessons. But instead of learning to read music, he relied on his photographic memory to play anything he’d heard only once.
“Change is inevitable, and you can’t stop that change. You say, ‘Wait, stop,’ and it just drives right over you.”
After massive success as lead guitar for The Guess Who, Randy went on to form Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Then, Bachman toured with Ringo Starr’s third all-star band and in 2015 released his Heavy Blues album with help from some very heavy musicians. Contributors included Joe Bonamassa, Peter Frampton, and fellow Canadians Neil Young and Jeff Healey.
Randy also had his own show on Canadian radio, where he played a wide range of musical styles. He says his early violin lessons influenced his guitar playing.
Enjoy this personal favorite from BTO days. His guitar work is pure and soulful.

Musical Ride
In 1997, Bob Dylan gave a performance for Pope John Paul II and 300,000 people in Bologna, Italy. He played Knocking On Heaven’s Door and A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall for Pope John Paul II and an audience of 300,000 at the World Eucharist Congress in Bologna, Italy. The Pope used the words from Blowin’ in the Wind for part of his sermon.
