In 1943, a gifted jazz singer named Bertha Miller gave birth to her son Steven who as an infant, spent hours with his father Sonny, a musical engineer. Regular guests to the family home included guitar genius Les Paul, and jazz greats T-Bone Walker and Charles Mingus.

At age six, Steve made a tape playing guitar which his father gave to Les Paul to hear. Encourage by his mother and mentored by Les Paul, Steve Miller continued playing and then left college before graduating to pursue a career.

“What the hell is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and what does it do besides talk about itself and sell postcards?”

Miller ended up in Chicago soaking up the city’s rich blues heritage, jamming with Paul Butterfield, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, and Howlin’ Wolf. Every one of the major stars Steve Miller encountered encouraged him to carry on playing. He has always expressed his gratitude for the good fortune to be raised in the world of musicians.
