Born in Malaga, Spain in 1881, Pablo Picasso was the eldest son of a painter who worked in the naturalist style and worked as a professor. Pablo’s father Ruiz saw promise in his son’s talents from the age of seven.

The family moved to Coruna where Ruiz took a post with the School of Fine Arts. He was a traditionalist in every sense with his painting and with teaching art.

One day, Ruiz found Pablo painting over one of his unfinished works. He felt that his son was so advanced at the age of thirteen, Ruiz vowed to give up painting entirely.

“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”

In 1897, Picasso first showed tendencies away from Realism. The Symbolist movement rendered more metaphorical depictions of truth and from that, Pablo moved into his modernist era. The further evolution of Picasso’s art is one of the most fascinating journeys in modern art.

It is no surprise that when Sotheby's held a recent auction of the master’s works in Las Vegas two days ago, his work fetched over $100 million for five paintings.

Today is:

Artist’s Day — As you would expect, the day was created to coincide with Picasso’s birthday.

Greasy Foods Day — likely created to coincide with my cravings:)

Musical Ride

Nashville paid tribute to Kenny Rogers who announced his retirement in 2017. Highlights of his 60-year career were performed by guests Lionel Ritchie, Chris Stapleton, and Don Henley. The show’s climax featured Rogers joined in a duet by Dolly Parton.

Interesting Notes
