Schlemiel! Schlimazel!

Born in the Bronx in 1943, Carole Penny Marshall was named by her mother for Carole Lombard, her favorite actor. When she moved to California Penny worked at several jobs for support and got into commercials.
Then she was considered for the role of Gloria on All In The Family but lost the part to Sally Struthers. Marshall ultimately got a recurring role on The Odd Couple where her husband was played by Bunker alumni, Rob Reiner.

While starred in Laverne and Shirley, Penny Marshall began her directing career on her show. Her love of filmmaking took her to film where Marshall made Peggy Sue Got Married and Jumpin’ Jack Flash with Whoopi Goldberg.
Penny Marshall continued directing with widely acclaimed works, Big with Tom Hanks, Awakenings with Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams, and A League of Their Own starring Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna, and Rosie O'Donnell.

But just to set the record straight, the show premiered this day in 1951. She was the best!
Musical Ride
On this day in 1960, the four famous members of The Beatles played together for the first time. Ringo Starr replaced an ailing Pete Best on a recording of George Gershwin’s Summertime.
Interesting Notes
Paul and Linda McCartney guested on the Simpsons in 1995 to convince Lisa to become a vegetarian. Paul mentioned that if you play Maybe I’m Amazed backward, you get a recipe for lentil soup.
Gone But Not Forgotten
Co-founder of Microsoft and owner of the Seattle Seahawks, Paul Allen became a philanthropist who donated over $450 million to 1,500 non-profit organizations. Allen died in 2018 from septic shock as a complication from Hodgkins Lymphoma at 65.
