Day Tripping: July 25
Supporting Roles

Mostly known for his character roles in Westerns, Walter Brennan who was born in 1894, is one of only three male actors to win three Academy Awards. Most of his supporting roles were alongside some of cinema’s greatest leading men including Gary Cooper and John Wayne.
“I’m not a glamour boy, and I never get the girl. I like to play old people, because there’s something to them. Did you ever see anybody under 30 with any real character or expression in his face?”
As if appearing in over 100 films weren’t enough, Brennan went on to star in The Real McCoys television sitcom. You probably didn’t that Walter also had a successful singing career, being the oldest living person at that time to have a Top 40 chart hit. He was 67 when Old Rivers reached number 5.
Today is:
Very hard to decide between these two. Guess I’ll have to have both.
National Hot Fudge Sundae Day
National Wine and Cheese Day
What a combo!
Musical Ride
Five months after the death of lead singer Bon Scott in 1980, AC/DC released Back In Black with their new frontman, Brian Johnson. The surviving band members were reluctant to continue on but they were convinced by Scott’s father at the funeral.
Johnson wrote most of the lyrics for the new songs as an obvious tribute to the late singer. With Hell’s Bells as the fitting opening track, the album quickly became AC/DC’s best selling of all time.
Interesting Notes
The scandalous moment occurred at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 when Bob Dylan plugged in! Legions of the singer’s fans were aghast that their hero would go electric.
The music world had no idea at the time how much this and future performances by Bob Dylan would reverberate through the Rock Era.
Gone But Not Forgotten
The founder of Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green began his recording career with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. His musical presence has been greatly missed long before Peter died last year at the age of 73.
