Day Tripping: August 29
Character

Ingrid Bergman was born in 1915 in Stockholm, Sweden. Her father wanted his daughter to become an opera singer, but life had other ideas. She lost both her parents by the time she was fourteen, and went on to live with a succession of relatives.
“Be yourself. The world worships the original.”
After attending the Royal Dramatic Drama School on scholarship, Ingrid began a moderately successful career in Sweden. When she came to Hollywood, producer David O. Selznick demanded she alter her appearance.
Bergman stood her ground and with her original looks went on to become the acting Icon we know and love.
Today is:
Chop Suey Day More Herbs Less Salt Day — Make up your mind. You can’t have both.
Well, you can but the Chop Suey won’t taste as good. Better wash it down with Lemon Juice Day or Whiskey Sour Day. Don‘t’ blame me. It’s all part of According to Hoyle Day.
Musical Ride
Eric Clapton’s drug-dependent and alcohol-infused racist rants at a concert in Birmingham, England in 1976 caused a British magazine called Sounds to publish public responses. The article included a call to action that was labeled, Rock Against Racism which grew to become a movement.
One irate fan wrote, “Clapton talks about ‘foreigners’ in our country. Well who do you think are the ‘foreigners’? The British of Asian descent who pay their taxes like the rest of us? Or the rock stars, who like Clapton and Bowie, live in the USA so they don’t have to pay tax on the profits they make from the money they screw out of their fans with exorbitant record and concert prices?”
Interesting Notes
The Gulf Coast was battered by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, killing more than 1,800 people and causing $200 million damage.
Gone But Not Forgotten
Gene Wilder was simply one of the best comedic film actors ever. With a certain glint of sinister mischief behind his portrayals of innocence, Gene was a master of deadpan. Wilder passed away in 2016 at 83.
