Day 5 — Lost and Found: The Power of Good Deed.
How one good deed pays dividends.

The past few weeks have been really exhausting at work. I found myself becoming frustrated and getting angry over small things because of issues with my project at work. I started feeling neglected or that my presence didn’t matter. I realize now it was likely due to the pressure everyone was under with looming deadlines. I misunderstood the situation and took it the wrong way. No one was communicating in their usual manner.
Every evening, I used to take a walk in the park near my house. I have this habit of bringing along some peanuts because the squirrels in the park love to eat them. I used to feed them without much thought, as my mind was preoccupied with work deadlines. It never occurred to me to pause and appreciate how special those moments were.

I couldn’t go for a walk for 2 days because my project was in production, and I had to provide support. On the 3rd day, as I parked my vehicle and began to walk, I noticed a squirrel approaching me. Initially, I didn’t pay much attention and started my walk since I had forgotten to bring the peanuts. However, the squirrel followed me halfway, and a passerby pointed out, “Did you notice something? That squirrel is following you”. I was surprised when I realized it. It was entirely a new experience for me. Kneeling down, I extended my hand, and the squirrel cautiously approached, perhaps expecting peanuts. I hurried back to my car and drove home to get some peanuts for the squirrel. When I returned, it was still waiting for me in the same spot under the tree. At that moment, I completely forgot about work and devoted my time to the squirrel. It took around 5 peanuts from me. After eating 2, it buried the remaining three in the ground, perhaps saving them for later.

Moral
We often fail to recognize our own worth until we experience moments like these. There’s someone out there who understands our value and significance, and it doesn’t always have to be a human. Animals, too, possess emotions and can remind us of our worth. That tiny creature, unfamiliar to me, expressed joy upon seeing me when I returned to the park after 2 days.
Remember:
“Your value doesn’t decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth.”
